5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mixture of History and Baseball Lore, December 18, 2004
This review is from: Hardball on the Home Front: Major League Replacement Players of World War II (Paperback)
This book thoughtfully revisits the lives and brief playing careers of selected WWII replacement players. These players would have been otherwise forgotten to the general public if not for these accounts. The player stories and anecdotes included in the book are both insightful and nostalgic reminding us of the way the game of baseball used to be played (for the love of it). As the reader delves deeper into each player's personal story and playing career, the twists of both national, local, and baseball history are rewarding. This book is a great read for those who love baseball and history, as the auther skillfully weaves the two together to create a very enjoyable account of these players lives.
