About the Author

About the authors:

The four authors work in various areas of tunneling.
Bernhard Maidl has been Professor for Civil Engineering, Tunneling and Construction at the Ruhr-Universität in Bochum since 1974. In 1979 he founded the engineering firm Maidl und Maidl in Bochum, which is involved in many large and complex tunnel projects in Germany and abroad.
Dr. Herrenknecht is the Founder and Chairman of the world's leading mechanized shield tunneling company.
Leonhard Schmid is a planner of tunneling projects and manager of a Swiss engineering firm.
Willy Ritz was formerly manager of a tunneling company in Switzerland and has a great deal of experience in the construction sector.
