Editorial Reviews

Product Description

From Editor's Comments: Hardscrabble is the autobiographical account of the first eighteen years (1907-1925) in the life of Anita Vivian Aldridge Kunkler. The memoir is set in the mountains of Shasta County, California, but the traditions and background of the Aldridge family lead back across the United States to the hills of eighteenth-century North Carolina. 5.0 out of 5 stars Honest and humorous portrayal of frontier life., December 8, 1998
By A Customer
The writer is very honest in her portrayal of frontier life. Told in the first person using common language of the times. The reader gets a first hand account of the fierce independence of early settlers. The book is also humorous as the author looks at the unsophisticated life led by her and her neighbors. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in history with a light, human touch.
