Now I know that if I want something in the way of books, go to the Pumpkin Patch!
Richard Dierig
He asked for more of them for his birthday as he enjoys these books as much I did and is reading them at a clip of one or two a week.
Joseph Dougherty
This must be the Simon & Schuster version, therefore not the original series published by Grosset & Dunlap.

Any parents buying the wonderful Hardy Boys series of books be careful! The most recent publications have been "Dumbed Down" something terrific.

Just pick up an older edition say 1950's and compare the same story with a brand new copy, the difference in the vocabulary choices jump out at you. It is as though the publishers of the newer books do not believe kids can understand any words greater than one or two syllables.

but the stories AND covers lack the charm and dense atmosphere of many of the books before they were rewritten, or redesigned;
Some standouts I remember:
The Secret of Skull Mountain
The Sign of the Crooked Arrow
The Mystery of Cabin Island (could still be in print)

This posting shows these books as being the original Hardy Boys series published by Grosset & Dunlap, but Grosset & Dunlap had a contract to publish only 1-58. Simon & Schuster later picked up the contract, and added books 59-66.

This must be the Simon & Schuster version, therefore not the original series published by Grosset & Dunlap.

The web page says complete set 1-66. I paid for the complete set 1-66 but when I received the books there were only 1-58. The paperwork inside the box wrote, " Comments: this set now only includes 1-58, the last 8 books are out of print. THIS SET IS 1-58 ONLY."
After I received my order I visited the web site and it still says the complete set 1-66. I want the 8 books or a proportionate refund for the 8 books.

ON MARCH 27,2014, I AM NOW COMPLETELY SATISFIED WITH MY ORDER AND EXPERIENCE WITH THIS ORDER.

When I was a young boy in the late 60's I just devoured these books loaning and borrowing from classmates and utilizing the school and public libraries for volumes no one else had. At Christmas my eightyear old's aunt bought him the first six volumes, because she remembered how much I enjoyed them as a boy, and he finished them before he was back to school. He asked for more of them for his birthday as he enjoys these books as much I did and is reading them at a clip of one or two a week. It is incredible to think how the series (begun in the thirties, if I recall correctly) still captures boys' imaginations in a Playstation, Wii and cable TV era. I am thrilled that, like baseball, these books can be passed down through the generations.
