PC Conversion,
By Bob (UK) - See all my reviews
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Hardy Boys: Hidden Theft (Video Game)
This is a conversion from a year old PC game and is a point and click adventure game, unfortunately its main weakness is the fact that it is a PC conversion and makes no use of the motion sensing available on the Wii controller. The other problem is that when using the Wii the viewing distance is greater and so the small items cannot be easily seen on screen in fact later in the game there is a puzzle which involves rotating and matching items in a shop (will not give too much away) but even though it is quite an easy puzzle it is impossible to complete without getting right up to the screen for a better view at which point it is difficult to use the controller. Although there are bad reviews on the PC version I would buy this at less than a third of the price of the Wii version.Back to the game you play as either of the two Hardy boys or both you can switch but it seems to do little for the game play except at the beginning when you have to switch between characters to get out of the house (This info is supplied in the manual giving the first 10 minutes of the game). It is somewhat difficult to direct the characters due to camera angles and the fact that at the top right hand corner of the screen there is a drop down (containing save options, Mobile Phone, Inventory, map and options to switch characters) which prevents movement that way. The mobile phone is supposed to be used to call various people for clues etc (Including Nancy Drew) however I could not get this to work. At one point later in the game the journal (contained in the phone) is needed to continue and much clicking was needed to access this. The map allows rapid movement between locations and additional locations open as you progress through the game. Although most of the puzzles are logical there are some where there seems no good reason why something you try does not work for example why can't you collect liquid in a beaker at one stage but you can at a different point of the game. SUMMARY A beginners point and click adventure game with many puzzles and quite an interesting story line but a direct conversion from a PC game which takes no advantage of the Wii motion controller.

I was so excited to play this game but I was totally disappointed. The controls are terrible! You don't use a nunchuck you actually have to point at the screen with the remote until you find footprints and press A to tell the characters to walk there. To pick things up you have to point at them and press A. They basically took the PC version and turned the mouse functions into controller functions. We have not gotten very far in the game yet because the controls are so difficult to master. For the price of this game I expected much better and if I can figure out a way to return it I will!

I purchased this game because I wanted a game similar to the Wii game Broken Sword. I have only just started playing it, but so far so good. I love mystery games and this seems to be right up my alley.
