As the story opens, Joe Hardy is unexpectedly picked to represent Bayport High School at a spelling bee competition, while brother Frank gets tagged to take Aunt Trudy's sick parrot to the vet. At the spelling bee, while trying not to be distracted by a pretty competitor, Joe gets an undercover assignment from ATAC (American Teens Against Crime). Joe is to protect the competitors from a mysterious and deadly villain known as the Hangman. He will be on his own for a while; Frank gets caught up in his own adventure at the vet office, featuring an attractive lady doctor.
"D.A.N.G.E.R. Spells The Hangman" manages to wring some interesting suspense out of some normally routine events. It is highly recommended to fans of the Hardy Boys graphic novels.
