In a future where aliens inhabit the bodies of the dead, one of the soldiers defending them from those that fear them abandons his post to race home.

Tyler's father is near death, and it's his last chance to make amends. In a world where the Silvers are feared by some as demons and loved by others as saviors, past sins will surface as Tyler's family must face the truth of the Silvers - and themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Heartfelt Tale w/ Cool Ideas & SciFi Action July 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
John has done more than come up with a cool idea for aliens, and how they might interact with people on Earth once they've made contact. He's gone beyond that and spun a tale with real characters in a real place with very real reactions to the aliens. I actually had a couple tears spill out near the end of the book - that's when I knew I had become invested in the characters. That said, those loveable characters are in a very convincing locale that produces a culture different to the rest of the world with its forward thinking about the aliens. A very well thought out story with cool ideas brought to great fruition with rich characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two worlds collide October 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Once again, John Mierau surprises us in creating such a realistic universe . This talent he has for mixing science-fiction into our world is uncanny and stirs really strong emotions and reactions in the readers. In all its sadness, this tale he weaves brings us hope for the human kind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great short story August 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have no real complaints about this story - it's very unique, has moments of insight, and addresses a few important issues we all face at some point in our lives. What more could you ask of a short story?

I only wish it wasn't quite SO short... with these characters and this idea, this could be developed into quite a good novel or even series. I wonder if the author has considered expansion.

More About the Author

Wordsmith. Audio storyteller. Family man.

John writes stories about worlds and comfort zones being set on their head, filled with the realest people he can make and set loose in science fiction and fantasy.

From there on, it's like a science experiment. Action (plot) and reaction (what characters do). When both work right, when all the elements come together, the story is done... and it's time to write the next one.

John lives in Canada near the shores of Lake Ontario, a comfortable distance from a megacity and the US border.
