5.0 out of 5 stars Gary Bartz NTU Troop
The vocals are " actually pretty good " the above reviewer comments...LOL
Thats Andy Bey ! Andy F@#King Bey ! his voice is like a 10 carat diamond ....something that don't come along too often ...glad you noticed.

As for Gary Bartz NTU Troop "Harlem Bush Music"... very important works these two albums Taifa/Uhuru. They led the way forward from the old...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's growin' on me
The first listen I couldn't get past the vocal's and I just put it away. I am not to hip on jazz with vocals, but a few more listen's and the music really hit me hard, especially the rhythm section and Gary Bartz sax. Now I have this music with me wherever I go and some of the vocals are actually pretty good (like- "Uhuru Sasa"). Harlem Bush Music is divided into (2)...

As for Gary Bartz NTU Troop "Harlem Bush Music"... very important works these two albums Taifa/Uhuru. They led the way forward from the old vanguard of improvisational Jazz that could've been lost...but Gary Bartz made sure that would not happen, we owe him much gratitude for these two superb pieces that really are timeless.

Now I have this music with me wherever I go and some of the vocals are actually pretty good (like- "Uhuru Sasa"). Harlem Bush Music is divided into (2) albums "Taifa" & "Uhuru" (both included on the CD). I really like "Uhuru" with Ron Carter on funky bass. It's still growing on me with every listen- who knows a little longer & it could end up in my top 10 with 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars an era lost, December 25, 2009

my sister had this lp in the early 70's. i would listen to it as a pre-teen and it blew my mind! racial awareness was big in our home .so this music and muhammed ali inspired my young mind.it also turned me on to the jazz idiom.thsese players and vocalist took me to a place i had never been and haven't been since. making powerful statement through the sax and percussion was a perfect combination.this is simply a superior album of jazz and thought. liaten ro "uhuru sasa" and "celestial blues" for a journey through a different time in our world. enjoy!
