5.0 out of 5 stars I'm glad I found Harlem Girl Lost
Harlem Girl Lost is the story of a young girl, Silver Jones, living a hard knock life. Her mother, Jesse, is a prostitute addicted to drugs. Her mother is estranged from her family because of becoming pregnant with Silver at such a young age. Silver never knew her father. 3.0 out of 5 stars Just a remake of Donald Goines

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm glad I found Harlem Girl Lost, November 30, 2004
This review is from: Harlem Girl Lost (Paperback)
Harlem Girl Lost is the story of a young girl, Silver Jones, living a hard knock life. Her mother, Jesse, is a prostitute addicted to drugs. Her mother is estranged from her family because of becoming pregnant with Silver at such a young age. Silver never knew her father. Her only male role model is Auntie Birdie, her mother's transvestite best friend and roommate. Despite her occupation, her mother devotes time to walking Silver to school each day while she drills life lessons into her head. Jesse gives her the brutal and honest truth, allowing her to see her own addiction and the perils of prostitution. These lessons play a vital role in Silver's journey to womanhood. Life was hard, but becomes harder with the murder of her mother. By her side, Silver always had her best friends Missy (I'll die for you b*tch) and Chance. Chance (short for Chancellor) is a kindred soul. He and Silver find comfort in each other because they both have in their short lives seen and experienced things no child should. But without her mother, and circumstances that rip Chance from her life, will Silver make it? Will she learn from her mother's mistakes? Will she let circumstances break her?
Harlem Girl Lost is a well crafted story with plenty of action, drama, pain, twists, and turns. It's hard to believe that this is Treasure's debut novel. Looking forward to reading more from this talented author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Treasure has a MASTERPIECE!!, March 29, 2005
This review is from: Harlem Girl Lost (Paperback)
With hip-hop novels dropping on the market like raindrops, author Treasure Blue is the author/artist that has the raindrop that plops you hard on the head, the one you won't forget! He has written a story about the game that is different from alllllllll the rest. His angle about the cruel life and survival in the streets begins with the minds of children and what they survive, in an effort just to try to live as people. He is creative, masterful and meticulous as he weaves in the characters in a street story that is as real as life itself. He hits the readers with surprises and jump-offs that are shocking.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Modern Donald Goines, November 9, 2004
This review is from: Harlem Girl Lost (Paperback)
Treasure Blues' writing is very reminiscent of Doanld Goines. I read the book and was suprised that Treasure was a male. Especially the way he was able to capture the female experience. I also loved the image he portrayed of Silver's mother. He displayed a new level of understanding for people addicted to drugs and their struugle to overcome their demons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harlem Boy Discovered...., December 18, 2004
This review is from: Harlem Girl Lost (Paperback)
Thru the book, Harlem Girl Lost, an author, an Harlem boy has been discovered. This book is an awesome read. I get excited when I think about what I can say about this book. Treasure E. Blue has been gracious enough to pen a novel that touches you deep down in your soul. And just when you think that you have dealt with one emotion, here comes another line that sucker punches your emotions, again. This book, is a love story that has all the drama of an urban hood story. How true to life this story is. Treasure I loved your book. I recommend this book to any one, it is one that you will want in your library. I must say that I thought one character was the lost harlem girl, but by the end I realized that it was actually another character, who found out that she was no longer lost. I must leave you, the reader with this, what are you still reading these reviews for? Go out and get this book, so you can write a review, right now!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Banger!!!!!!, December 16, 2004
This review is from: Harlem Girl Lost (Paperback)
I give this book two thumbs up. What a story. This book kept your interest from the beginning to the end. There were so many twists and turns, right up to the last page. I didn't want this book to end. It touched all emotions. What a powerful story. I loved Chance and Silver. Silver, was in a class all by herself, a love story made for the movies. Treasure Blue you really did the thang with this story. I don't want to give it away, but for those who want to read a good Urban Lit book, you will not be disappointed in this book. I felt for each character, and who would have thought that Mitts, was who he was. I like the way that Treasure handled each character and the story line that each one of them played in making this a fantastic book, a page turner, a book that will touch every emotion. Blessings to the literary world, for Mr. Treasure E. Blue has arrived with a BANG!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Secrets of Life, January 25, 2011

This review is from: Harlem Girl Lost: A Novel (Paperback)
Silver Jones was equally educated in the streets as well as school. Her mother Jessica, a prostitute, made it her business to insure that Silver was equipped with book smarts as well as street smarts in order to prevent being caught off guard like she had been.

Chance was a throw away kid. Not even the teachers seemed to care about him. It was that reason that Silver gravitated towards him. Fast friends, Silver and Chance share details of their imperfect worlds. Soon the two are inseparable, vowing to always be together.

Unfortunately for Silver, her life has taken another chaotic turn. Struggling to survive on the streets, Silver and Chance are reconnected. Is this finally their season for love?

A drug dealer, Chance has grown. Unfortunately for Silver, it isn't into the man that she knows he could be. Heartbroken, Silver heads off to Spelman College in hopes of never returning to New York, NY, again. Is this the end of their romance?

`Harlem Girl Lost' by Treasure E. Blue is a for real hood fairytale. I've had this book on my shelf for so long it just never seemed like I had time to read it. A good story, I love how the couple grew and how Treasure introduces the characters and brings the story all the way home. Disappointing was the editing; missing words and wrong tense used repeatedly. While infuriating, it didn't affect the story. Even with that said, I was impressed with the passion and dedication and the value of the overall message.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just a remake of Donald Goines, August 5, 2006
By
This review is from: Harlem Girl Lost (Paperback)
When I first read this book I thought it was pretty good. After reading Donald Goines' Black Girl Lost I am sad to say that Harlem Girl Lost was a mere copy of that. The story was still good but all in all it was very unoriginal. The beginning of the two books mirrored each other and I was dissapointed when I found that out. I hate when authors write the same recycled stories over and over. I pay my money to support them and to get new stories not ones that were ripped off of another man's work. This book is good but if you are thinking about buying it do yourself a favor and just order Black Girl Lost by Donald Goines. It's better and it was written first. I hope Mr. Blue's next book will be a bit more original. I just ordered the entire Goines collection and I dont want to read another remake of his books.

This review is from: Harlem Girl Lost (Paperback)
Every where I go I recommend this book. The author does a great job writing this tale. This book is written like a puzzle and all the characters fit perfectly. I was so impressed at how they all were connected. I may even go as far as saying this book is a modern day romance (Silver and Chance). Not to give anything away: through it all Birdie kept her word "she" was down for whatever, grandmom has issues, and the eyes never lie. Buy this book NOW so you will understand my references.
