Amazing Footage! Before there was TV or MTV, there were Soundies.,

The music, of course, is great (Ellington,Calloway,Basie,Millinder) but the film footage here is just unbelieveable! I had no idea there was such a thing as a "soundie", much less that fantastic African American musicians and performers in Harlem had been recorded in this way. All these films were made between 1941-1947 and I do not think you will be able to see comparable footage elsewhere. "The Skunk Song" about another musician bragging about "the dough he made with Disney" in 1940s is just too amazing! Includes the Cab Calloway classic "Minnie the Moocher" also. Also great for the 40's hairstyles and clothing. Highly recommended.
