5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing two-piano stride music, June 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Harlem Strut (Audio CD)
I was surprised that you fail to mention that this is a TWO-piano album, not even mentioning the name of the second pianist, Louis Mazetier. Louis is the regular pianist with the famous French group, Paris Washboard. You would do well to carry some of their albums! This is the second Neville Dickie-Louis Mazetier album, the first being "If Dreams Come True," both produced by Stomp Off Records, York, PA. I have had the privilege of hearing both of these musicians live, and now am an avid collector of everything they have ever recorded. The title tune, "Harlem Strut," is by the granddaddy of stride, James P. Johnson, and sets the mood for the whole album. Fats Waller tunes are also featured, including "Viper's Drag." And if you have never heard "The Bells of St. Mary's" rocking in stride rhythm, that tune alone is worth the price of the album. There are eighteen tunes altogether, and although most of them are two piano cuts, each artist does three solo numbers. But it! You'll love it!
