great product from Harley-Davidson, protects well and looks sharp...
on July 26, 2012
I bought this set of two safety glasses as a Gold Box Deal for only $9.95, and consider it a great buy. When I first saw the product, my reaction was surprise, as I had no idea that Harley-Davidson even made safety glasses. The glasses looked pretty good, and with Harley-Davidson's reputation for high quality, I figured it was worth the gamble at five bucks a pair, as I am a regular user of safety glasses.
I'm really impressed by the quality of these glasses which provide 99.9% UV protection, and compliant with ANSI Z87, which covers basic minimum standards for impact protection. One pair has a clear lens, and the second pair has a medium dark tint, with a slight mirrored finish. The look is stylish and sleek for safety glasses, with the tinted pair being intended for outdoor use. Completing the "designer" look, the name "Harley-Davidson" is embossed along the bottom edge of the left lens.
The clear and tinted lenses are identically shaped. The adjustable nose pads are attached to heavy duty metal framing, which is secured to the lens with screws. The plastic earpieces have the Harley-Davison logo on the side, and feature the company's silver, black, and orange color scheme. The glasses also come with a pair of decent quality black neck cords, similar to Croakies.
These glasses are lightweight and comfortable. The adjustable nose pads, which are rather unusual for safety glasses, allow for a better fit. The only major negative so far, is that the lenses easily attract fingerprints and retain skin oils, and can be kind of hard to clean. Otherwise, I'm very pleased with the set, and feel that they are still a pretty good buy, even at the current price of about $12. Hopefully the lenses will not scratch easily, and these glasses will last. If there is a problem, I will update this review.
As with most safety products, legal liability is a major concern, both for the manufacturer and the user. On the label, Harley-Davidson provides detailed information about the kinds of situations and activities that these glasses are not suitable for. Be sure to read this for your own safety. For example, it is stated that these glasses are not intended for use while riding a motorcycle, for most sports, for paintball activities, or for exposure to certain chemicals.
