3.0 out of 5 stars Rock on, March 31, 2006
Harlow was another one of the "too tough for pop" rocker chick bands that seemed to be everywhere in the first couple years of the `90s. Like similar artists Saraya, Chrissy Steele, Cell Mates, Robin Beck, Skew Siskin, and Vixen, Harlow's music was pretty straightforward rock & roll that bordered on being AOR.

I don't think you could ever consider this a "great" album, but there's still plenty to enjoy. The vocals are tough without sounding overly raspy, and seem perfectly suited to this type of music. The songs rock pretty hard, and feature some great melodies and better than average guitar solos.

Harlow is anything but dainty. If you like your rocker chicks to, you know, actually rock, you'll want to check this one out.

3.0 out of 5 stars A tight album, October 25, 2006
This self-titled debut album from Harlow was released in 1990. It is comprised of ten tracks. The material is in a straight-up hard rock musical direction. Keyboard work is in evidence, but it is spare. I find the songwriting to be worthy, the musicianship to be solid, and the sound quality to be pleasing. Female vocalist Teresa Straley does a nice, impressive job. The cuts that I favor are "Chain Reaction," "Silence," and "Don't Say We're Over." The energetic "Chain Reaction" sports a catchy chorus. The somber "Silence" displays industrious singing from Straley; also, her wordless vocal melodies are attractive. The plaintive, eloquent "Don't Say We're Over" features expressive, pretty vocals from Straley--her wordless vocal melodies are infectious, too. In addition, this song presents a charming intro and smooth keyboard playing. In regard to the CD booklet, the song lyrics and an interesting color illustration of the band are included. The disc is just over 50 minutes. This album is recommendable.

4.0 out of 5 stars COULD IT BE?, March 10, 2005
OK, SO I WAS LIVING IN LA IN 1990 AND WORKING AT TOWER RECORDS IN TORRENCE. MY FRIEND LIZ INTRODUCED ME TO SOME FRIENDS WHO HAD A GROUP CALLED HARLOW. I GOT A TAPE FROM THE LEAD SINGER AND LOVED IT. THE SONG "CHAIN REACTION" WAS FREAKIN AWESOME.. I LOST THE TAPE AND HAD NEVER SEEN OR HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THEM SINCE UNTIL NOW! MAN, I HOPE THIS IS IT! I AM IN HEAVEN. AWESOME GROUP, AND SOME DAMN GOOD VOCALS!!!
