Very simple setup.

The on-screen graphics are very ancient looking, like they used an Atari as inspiration, but it works fine and is easy to navigate.

Overall, this is a great, barebones, entry level receiver.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is a brand new Harman Kardon A/V receiver from their AVR 1x10 series. The AVR 1510 is the bottom of the AVR 1x10 line but still awash with features.

The high points:
-75W per channel 5.1 (375W total)
-Eco friendly. Energy efficient, savings in power and a smaller size.
-Network connectivity.
-Dolby, DTS.
-HDMI, front USB input, and with iPod, iPhone, android devices, etc.
-Internet radio tuner.

Comments:
I spent a bit of time reading up and testing on this unit before writing this review and I'm going to go against the grain of most reviewers and say this: for basic A/V receivers, your other components such as speakers will probably be a bigger determinant of your sound quality so I would buy for features and price. The main features in this unit are eco-friendliness, network connectivity, USB connection, connectivity with Apple products and radio vTuner, everything else being fairly standard.

The Harmon Kardon sound is just beautiful. I have a pretty basic set-up with a Sony TV and Bose speakers and I tested this against my Sony and Denon AV receivers and I have to say the sound compares very well. Right now, because the sound is so beautiful I have it set up as an audio only receiver just to enjoy the music.

The skinny:
Entry level, updated, networked, 5.1, eco-friendly Harmon Kardon A/V receiver at a low price. The big selling points for me are great sound, eco-friendliness and connectivity from multiple sources.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I own a number of home theater receivers, ranging from $300 - $1000+. This HK is geared towards the entry level crowd that don't need a lot of bells and whistles.

What I LOVE about this receiver is how small and light it is. It seems HK is trying to do away with the massive, heavy receivers of old. HK has a proprietary, "green" power supply that offers a huge reduction in weight and only turns on to the input being used. It makes this weigh next to nothing compared to a "normal" receiver, which is great. It also allows it to stay much cooler than most other receivers, so it no longer heats up the room you're watching TV in (unlike my old Onkyo).

The other thing I love is that it's short - only about 5" tall. It fits perfectly in my AV cabinet - any taller and it wouldn't fit.

It has 4 HDMI inputs, and offers a modest 75 watts per channel for power. Compared to my HK 1700, it's slightly less powerful, but barely noticeable. Once set up, you use the on screen menu (OSD on the remote) to calibrate your inputs. You can assign any HDMI/optical/coax input for any source. For instance, I have the "Game" source using coax in for the Belkin Bluetooth HD Music Receiver for my phone (this BT receiver is unbelievable!). And Aux is set to HDMI 4 for audio and video in. It's very customizable. And you can rename any source to what you want (e.g. PS3, Roku, etc.).

The included remote is OK, but I use a Logitech Harmony for everything. It's a very basic, but functional remote.

The sound this produces is stellar. It's a step below the HK 1700, as this one offers NO EQ whatsoever. Just keep that in mind. But HK produces some of the best audio in the business when it comes to receivers. Even without EQ, movies/TV sounds stellar through my 5.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
It's nice to see less emphasis on "monster" sized components and more emphasis on simple, small, and lower power consumption.

This receiver is no-frills, but the sound is great. The user interface of the unit and the remote are just OK, but I prefer universal remotes anyway.

This has four HDMI ports in and one out, which is a great way to manage the connections of my home theater (satellite, XBox, and Bluray). The connections and setup were quick and easy and configuring the levels for each of the 5.1 channels went pretty quickly.

The receiver itself feels pretty lightweight, but that's not detectable in the sound quality at all. The sound is definitely on par with the other home theater receivers in our home.

Unless you have a complicated array of devices to connect (with mixed digital & analog inputs), this basic receiver will be a great choice. Study the product image and make sure it has all the inputs you need to control your devices. But if everything is digital, nothing could be simpler than connecting four HDMI cables and all your speakers. Very simple setup.

EDIT (August 2014):

I've been using this receiver for well over a year now and the more I use it the more I love it. It's one of the few components in my home that I never have to worry about. It just works. The sound is so much better than the Yamaha receiver that I had before. I'm constantly surprised that the same speakers and same components have been upgraded so much by swapping out receivers. The quality of the sound and the surround are perfect.

I was looking for a basic, small receiver to power a modest 2.1 setup in our apartment. We had pretty tight size requirements, and the H/K 1510 was one of very few receivers that would actually fit. It was also the least expensive, and H/K has a decent reputation in quality audio so I took the plunge (granted at this price it's not much of a plunge).

For the money and size, we absolutely couldn't be happier. It looks beautiful, takes up very little space, and sounds great. I have it hooked up to a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 10.2 speakers crossed over at 80hz to a subwoofer, and the combination sounds fantastic powered by this receiver. Better, in fact, than my much more expensive speakers powered by a much more expensive (and powerful) Pioneer Elite receiver (stating opinion here, but I loved that more expensive setup too).

The good: Inexpensive, small & light, beautiful, sounds great. On-screen menu is straight-forward and makes sense to navigate.

The bad: Not as full-featured as some other receivers, not as powerful as some other receivers, cheap non-front-channel speaker connections.

The bottom line is that I can't imagine a better-sounding receiver at this price, and the fact that it's small, light and stylish is icing on the cake. You could pay more and get some more features, but if you're looking for some simple amplification and video switching you'd be hard-pressed to do better. I've had some terribly buggy H/K receivers in the past, but this one works perfectly and beautifully.
