Great AVR Reciver,

This review is from: Harman Kardon AVR 3550HD 7x75-Watt 1080p Audio/Video Receiver (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
If you want the best, the easiest true Audio Video Reciever, this is it! This thing is awesome. The on screen set up feature, auto audio/eq adjusting and even renaming your components is the easiest thing to do. For the most part it is all automatic with everything. All you have to do is go through the menu and select your components, tell it how you plugged it in (HDMI, S-Video, ect..) and it does the rest. All video is upped to 1080p, all audio is converted to 7.1 even if you have analog input. Less than 1 hour and I was watching moves, great product!! Spend the extra dollars for this reciever, you will never be happier, unless you get a higher end model from Harman Kardon.

Great "Bang-For-Your-Buck" Receiver!,
This review is from: Harman Kardon AVR 3550HD 7x75-Watt 1080p Audio/Video Receiver (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
I purchased this receiver as a refurbished unit through Harman Audio at quite a savings, yet it looks brand new. For the price I paid, I don't think I could find another receiver with as many features that still sounds as good as this one. Harman/Kardon's power figures might seem a bit low compared to other manufacturers, but they are "real" power figures (with ALL channels driven), much in the same way as NAD.The graphical user interface is by far the best I've seen, and I've owned a lot of equipment over the years. I did a firmware upgrade to my unit that was available for free from H/K using the RS-232 connection on the back of the receiver, which corrected some audio dropouts using the DTS surround mode (I knew this prior to purchasing the receiver) in addtion to some other improvements. The upgrade went without a hitch, and it now operates without any problems. I've owned this component for approximately 8 months. Even though it is a refurbished unit, it is covered for two years from Harman Audio, which can't be beat for a previously owned piece of equipment. My summary of the best features of this receiver: 1. Excellent and simple-to-use graphical user interface. 2. Good connectivity (although it would have been nice to have 4 HDMI inputs instead of 3, as well as a 12v trigger output). 3. Smooth and detailed midrange (hallmarks of Harman/Kardon receivers) and cable of handling dynamic transient swings with ease (35 amps has a lot to do with that!). 4. Awesome styling and front display. 5. Detachable power cord (for ease of installation and/or replacement with better cable). 6. Adequate power for medium-sized rooms (75 watts/channel x 7 with ALL channels driven). 7. Great value! 8. Up conversion of all sources to 1080P. If you're in the market for a solid-performing receiver, I'd seriously put this receiver on your short list.

I was really excited to get this receiver. Had all of the inputs and outputs that I needed for the range of devices I had. Set up was relatively easy, though I had some problems figuring out how to get the system to work with my 5.1 setup.Anyway, this thing runs really hot. I thought my JVC was hot, but the HK goes beyond anything I've ever seen. I have it in a rack, by itself, with 3.5 feet of space above it and it still overheats. Screen blacks out periodically. Added a couple of 4" fans to blow on it and that seems to have solved the problem. The other major issue is popping. If you read the various forums, many people make note of audio popping issues. For me, it happens whenever I use a trick mode on my DVR or DVD player, there is a pop. Loudness of pop varies. Sometimes it's quite soft, other times I wonder if I'm going to damage my speakers.
