Key Features

Two 65-watt-per-channel power amplifiers

Two amplifiers rated at 65 watts per channel power the pair of satellite loudspeakers, which feature voice-matched, dual-midrange drivers for consistent sound from speaker to speaker. This amplifier-speaker combination dramatically improves the clarity and realism of directional sounds, even at the highest listening levels.

Fully integrated home-theater audio system

The BDS 370 is an all-in-one entertainment solution featuring a 3D Blu-ray Disc receiver and FM receiver with an HDMI output, two dual-midrange loudspeakers and a downward-firing, 200-watt powered subwoofer. It contains everything you need for great video and sound from virtually any movie or music source, combining the performance of separate components with the ease of use of a single, fully integrated home theater audio system.

200-watt powered subwoofer

Unlike conventional, front-firing subwoofers, the BDS 370's 200-watt, powered 8-inch (200-millimeter) powered sub fires downward, interacting with the floor rather than the nearby walls for enhanced bass response. Volume, phase and bass-boost controls make it easy to synchronize bass output with the satellites and then fine-tune the system's performance to match your room acoustics and personal preferences.

BD-Live interactivity

A BD-Live connection via your home network lets you experience next-generation interactive content through the Internet to access such exciting features as direct delivery of the latest movie trailers, plus downloadable games, quizzes, featurettes and more.

Integrated Blu-ray Disc player, DVD/CD player and FM tuner

The BDS 370 system handles all your entertainment sources on both 5-inch (127-millimeter) and 3-inch (76-millimeter) disc formats, including BD-Video (single/double-layer), DVD-Video, DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW, CDDA (Compact Disc Digital Audio) and CD-R/RW discs. The FM tuner section features a frequency range of 87.5MHz to 108.0MHz.

Three HDMI inputs with 3D support and Deep Color

Clean and Dynamic, one-of-a-kind look makes a dramatic design statement in any room. JBL Studio 530 is available in front-to-back black finish.

Integrated Blu-ray Disc player, DVD/CD player and FM tuner

Three HDMI inputs with 3D and 30/36-bit Deep Color deliver HD digital video (up to 1080p resolution) and full-fidelity audio through a single cable. There is no loss of video or audio quality because of format conversion, just full-impact Hollywood excitement as its creators meant you to experience it.

HDMI output with Audio Return Channel

The BDS 370 HDMI output's Audio Return Channel (ARC) lets you enjoy TV audio playback though the loudspeaker channels instead of through your TV set's small and often compromised speakers.

Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding

The BDS 370's integral Blu-ray Disc player handles a variety of audio and video formats, including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS Digital, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, DTS-HD Master Audio, PCM plus WMA (DRM-free version only): WMA9, CBR, VBR and MP3.

Energy-saving subwoofer trigger output

The BDS 370's dedicated subwoofer trigger output ensures that when you turn the system on or off, the connected subwoofer also automatically turns on or off, saving energy.

Dolby Virtual Speaker technology

Not every room can accommodate the multiple loudspeakers required for surround-sound playback. For heightened movie and music enjoyment, the BDS 370's built-in Dolby Virtual Speaker technology creates a realistic, 5.1-channel, surround-sound experience using just two speakers and a subwoofer channel.

I did many hours of research on which sound system I wanted to purchase. I currently have a Samsung sound system in my living room and like it a lot except for the software aspect of it is a little sketchy. I decided to go with the Harmon Kardon BDS 370 2.1 for my bed room because it is a simple and elegant system. I have no regrets on the purchase of the Harmon Kardon. It produces excellent sound at all volume levels and has all the features I need in a simple 2.1 sound system. I would definitely purchase another Harmon Kardon product in the future. One thing I wish the Harmon Kardon had was a better users manual. Sometimes I have questions and can't seem to get them answered with the simple user manual provided.

Let me say this first - there are plenty of 2.1 systems out there much cheaper (except Bose - but Bose 'sound' is not worth it - trust me).

I was looking at this model and there are very few reviews out there - so hopefully this will help anyone contemplating this model. Harman Kardon seems to be more popular in Europe than the US and availability here is not as plentiful.

PROS:

*Great Fit and Finish - this is a well made product. The receiver itself has brushed stainless steel on the top and gold plated connectors and the speakers, sub, even the remote all exude quality. It is a good looking unit
*Good power from a smaller unit
*3 HDMI connections and component - this can serve you well as a hub for all of your electronic AV stuff
*Loud - it can really fill a room and the sub has a lot of power
*FAST blue ray load times - this is by far the fastest loading payer I have ever encountered. You will get to your movie in no time at all.
*Picture quality is superb from BR and DVDs.

CONS:

*You can hear the disc spinning in the player - it gets very annoying as the disk slows down as the movie progresses and if you are listening at softer volumes - this really takes away from the experience and I am shocked that such a high quality product by HK would allow this.
*Connectivity - no wireless or Bluetooth built in - in this day and age that is unacceptable - the only connection is an Ethernet jack and that is for BD Live - so basically useless. iPod needs a $100+ dollar Bridge IIIP connector - which synchs well but does not SHOW any of your items on the TV - only on the small dot matrix display on the receiver.
*NOTE - in the UK there are 2 newer models of this 2.

First, this delivers great sound! However, my first system stopped working within three months. It simple stopped reading disks, although the iPod doc continued to work. Now, after another couple of months, the replacement system has developed the same problem. Once again, I have to return it to the company for a replacement. The last time, shipping cost me $60. Summing up, great sound but not worth the trouble. I will never buy another Harmon Kardon product.

This little HK system has exceeded my expectations. No, it's not a full surround system, and likely won't sound impressive in a large room balls out. But if you need a really compact system with excellent sound and a generous amount of options, this is a good choice. I don't need wireless capability, so I'm glad I didn't have to pay for that feature. If wireless is important to you, look at the other (pricier) HK models.

Build quality of the receiver is superb. This does not look or feel cheap. Case is rugged, and quite elegant in an understated sort of way. The speaker posts are audiophile-grade metal w/gold plate. The RCA connectors are also high grade - very important if you rely on component inputs. The input/output options are impressive for a compact unit. This is actually a workable A/V hub. 3 HDMI 1.4 inputs, 1 HDMI monitor output w/audio return channel, 2 optical audio inputs, and enough analog ports to acommodate many older components. More like a baby A/V receiver than a typical HTIB.

Sounds surprising good on all the sources I tried. Of course BD playback was the crown jewel, but the sub-HD sources played well also. I wish a graphic equalizer was included, but the bass and treble controls have pretty decent range. The middle tends to be subdued when played through my column speakers, something an equalizer could correct. Otherwise, great sound for a 65-Watt unit. Output level is more than adequate - at 40% it rocked the room.

There are only 2 virtual-surround settings, sort of like wide and extra-wide. The wide setting worked well for HD sources, but had little effect on stereo inputs. The subwoofer is robust, but requires some careful tailoring to your room acoustics. Once the sub is dialed in, you've got a bona-fide home theater.
