Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Delivering stand-out audio and video performance for a great price, Harman Kardon's CP 15 will turn your living room into a full-blown home theater. The all-in-one system features a suite of individual, style-matched components: the AVR 135 6.1-channel audio/video receiver, the DVD 22 progressive-scan DVD player, and the HKTS 8 home-cinema speaker system. The system's unified system remote operates the receiver and DVD player and can be programmed to operate devices such as video displays or DTV set-top boxes.

The AVR 135 features a discrete-output amplifier that pumps 6 channels of high-current (+/-25 amps), ultrawide-bandwidth power: 6 x 40 watts into 8 ohms, 20 to 20,000 Hz with less than 0.07 percent THD. The receiver uses state-of-the-art 192 kHz/24-bit audio digital-to-analog converters and a high-power Cirrus 32-bit DSP processor for clear, dynamic presentations from music and movies. The receiver offers a high-quality FM/AM tuner with 30 station presets.

The DVD 22 uses HK's most-advanced digital video and audio technologies, including innovative pixel-by-pixel video processing (which provides amazingly realistic image quality) and high-res 24-bit/192 kHz audio digital-to-analog conversion. Pixel-by-pixel reconstruction is accomplished by an integrated digital signal processor that provides vastly superior picture quality compared to line-by-line progressive-scan methods, yielding smoother, more realistic images with exceptional detail and contrast.

Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

The DVD 22 plays Windows Media Audio (WMA), VCD, CD, CD-R/RW, WMA, MP3, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-DA, CD-ROM multisession, and 96 kHz/24-bit audio discs, and it's also compatible with JPEG still-image files stored on compact discs. The player can also simultaneously play MP3 tracks and JPEG images and coordinate the two, automatically changing images with each MP3 track played in slideshow presentations. The unit's program, random, and repeat play modes operate with the files and folders on MP3 and WMA discs, as well as with DVDs and CDs.

The HKTS 8 seven-piece speaker system includes a 10-inch, 100-watt, bass-reflex subwoofer; 5 identical, 2-way satellite speakers for use in the left and right front and rear speaker positions; a dedicated, dual-midrange, center-channel speaker; wall-mount brackets for the 5 satellites; and all of the speaker cables you need to connect your speakers to the AVR 135. The speaker cables and speakers all use a color-coding system to conform to the CEA standard.

Matching, all-metal floor stands (model HTFS 2) are available separately. The system's satellites employ high-output, premium-quality drivers; the tweeters in the satellites and center speaker use an elliptical waveguide that' specially shaped to control directivity and supply sound to a wide listening area. The subwoofer offers a complement of controls, inputs, and outputs to provide optimum sound quality in any room.

What's in the Box
The AVR 135 audio/video receiver, the DVD 22 progressive-scan DVD-Video player, the HKTS 8 home cinema speaker system, 2 HKS 3 satellite speakers, a unified system remote control, all requisite speaker cable and A/V interconnects, user's manuals, and warranty/registration information.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you enjoy buttons, you'll do just fine., November 30, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Harman Kardon CP 15 6.1-Channel Complete Home Theater System (Electronics)
I recently purchased this system for my parents. As a professional recording engineer, sound quality was priority number one for me. For my parents, however, sound quality ranks somewhere below price, ease of use, and the color of the speakers.

Fortunately, they didn't mind the silver, and they loved how small the satellite speakers are.

Unfortunately, the system is a bit more complicated than the average user would probably prefer. And I'd say there was little to no chance they would have been able to correctly set it up in their own, even with the "quick start" guide.

I love the system though. But then, I really like buttons and knobs.

My biggest complaint about these pre-fab surround systems is that, for aesthetic reasons, the manufacturers choose to make the speakers extremely small. Because the small speakers are unable to accurately reproduce low frequencies, they force the subwoofer to cover too much of the low end, which can result in an excessively boomy sound.

I'm pleased to report that this isn't the case with the HKTS 8 speaker system. The satellites seem to have no problem reproducing frequencies down below 100Hz, allowing the sub to focus on sub-lows, which is what it does best. Now I'm not going to say the sub outperforms the Velodyne I use every day, but then, the Velodyne sub cost more than this whole speaker system.

The DVD Player is pretty full-featured, though it doesn't have an HDMI output. Oh, and the remote is pretty impressive. It's fully programmable, and has a built-in microphone to automatically calibrate the system.

So all in all, I say if it's in your budget, and you like to screw around with electronics, buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound - Lots of reading!, October 9, 2005
This review is from: Harman Kardon CP 15 6.1-Channel Complete Home Theater System (Electronics)
I bought this system last weekend. It looked great at the store and stacked up nicely against its competition. After arriving at home the real work began. Most of my work entailed hiding all of the speaker wire under floorboard and wall trim. After that was done I sat down with the quick set up guide and the back of the receiver facing me. I failed trying to follow the guide and hook everything up the first time. So I decided to unhook everything and do it myself and bingo ... lift off!! I do agree with the previous reviewer about the manuals. I haven't found any mistakes but they are not a light read!

Overall the sound from this system has been great so far. The only reason I gave this system 4 stars was because of the 'un-userfriendliness' of the set up process. Be sure to a lot a good chunk of time. With that being said, once you do get everything up and running you will not be disappointed at all!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The sound is fantastic, but patience will be needed, June 16, 2005
This review is from: Harman Kardon CP 15 6.1-Channel Complete Home Theater System (Electronics)
I just bought a CP 15 recently. The looks are great, the sound is fantastic, but make sure you have the time and the patience to install and to understand the instructions. I work in computers, so reading manuals and assambling electronics is not new to me, but the manuals for this set are really complicated. Also they have errors. The section describing the remote control has a mistake in the numbering sequence of the buttons description. Took me hours to discover. The remote control, def not easy to use. This is a great system, with an amazing sound, but it is for the advanced audiophile. And by the way the amp gets really hot!

Sometimes I miss my Sony DAVS-300,
