I recently purchased this system for my parents. As a professional recording engineer, sound quality was priority number one for me. For my parents, however, sound quality ranks somewhere below price, ease of use, and the color of the speakers.

Fortunately, they didn't mind the silver, and they loved how small the satellite speakers are.

Unfortunately, the system is a bit more complicated than the average user would probably prefer. And I'd say there was little to no chance they would have been able to correctly set it up in their own, even with the "quick start" guide.

I love the system though. But then, I really like buttons and knobs.

My biggest complaint about these pre-fab surround systems is that, for aesthetic reasons, the manufacturers choose to make the speakers extremely small. Because the small speakers are unable to accurately reproduce low frequencies, they force the subwoofer to cover too much of the low end, which can result in an excessively boomy sound.

I'm pleased to report that this isn't the case with the HKTS 8 speaker system. The satellites seem to have no problem reproducing frequencies down below 100Hz, allowing the sub to focus on sub-lows, which is what it does best. Now I'm not going to say the sub outperforms the Velodyne I use every day, but then, the Velodyne sub cost more than this whole speaker system.

The DVD Player is pretty full-featured, though it doesn't have an HDMI output. Oh, and the remote is pretty impressive. It's fully programmable, and has a built-in microphone to automatically calibrate the system.

So all in all, I say if it's in your budget, and you like to screw around with electronics, buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound - Lots of reading!, October 9, 2005
This review is from: Harman Kardon CP 15 6.1-Channel Complete Home Theater System (Electronics)
I bought this system last weekend. It looked great at the store and stacked up nicely against its competition. After arriving at home the real work began. Most of my work entailed hiding all of the speaker wire under floorboard and wall trim. After that was done I sat down with the quick set up guide and the back of the receiver facing me. I failed trying to follow the guide and hook everything up the first time. So I decided to unhook everything and do it myself and bingo ... lift off!! I do agree with the previous reviewer about the manuals. I haven't found any mistakes but they are not a light read!

Overall the sound from this system has been great so far. The only reason I gave this system 4 stars was because of the 'un-userfriendliness' of the set up process. Be sure to a lot a good chunk of time. With that being said, once you do get everything up and running you will not be disappointed at all!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The sound is fantastic, but patience will be needed, June 16, 2005
This review is from: Harman Kardon CP 15 6.1-Channel Complete Home Theater System (Electronics)
I just bought a CP 15 recently. The looks are great, the sound is fantastic, but make sure you have the time and the patience to install and to understand the instructions. I work in computers, so reading manuals and assambling electronics is not new to me, but the manuals for this set are really complicated. Also they have errors. The section describing the remote control has a mistake in the numbering sequence of the buttons description. Took me hours to discover. The remote control, def not easy to use. This is a great system, with an amazing sound, but it is for the advanced audiophile. And by the way the amp gets really hot!

Sometimes I miss my Sony DAVS-300,

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome System, December 3, 2006
This review is from: Harman Kardon CP 15 6.1-Channel Complete Home Theater System (Electronics)
This is an awesome system. If you are looking for a complete system in a box at a good price and high value, this is it.

The system setup is not difficult as other reviews have said. You will however need to read the manual as there are a number of options, but otherwise it tool only ~30 minutes to setup.

My only complaints is that the sub is pretty large. I wish it were a bit smaller but once you hear it boom, you'll quickly forget. Its a true home theater experience.

I bought this system July 2006 and am very pleased with it. I did a lot of research and listened to several similar systems from other companies before purchasing the HK CP15 and have to say that it blew others away.

The sound quality, richness, ability to hit highs and lows even at loud voulumes without distortion was excellent. This system would be great for small to medium size rooms. The subwoffer even though is rated 100Watts, produces booming bass which fills the room and while watching movies, shakes the room. I love bass but still I keep the bass knob on the subwoffer at about 45%, its just that powerful!

The speakers are smaller than the HK HKTS8 and the "8" has a 200Watt subwoffer and does not come with a DVD player. My friend has the HKTS8 in his house, and listening to the two, there is not a huge difference.

If this system is in your price range, it is a must buy. As for set-up I did not find it too complicated, it is time comusing though, but the wait is definately worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great System, June 4, 2006
This review is from: Harman Kardon CP 15 6.1-Channel Complete Home Theater System (Electronics)
I've had this system for about 5 months now and I have to say this is an excellent product. The sound is fantastic, good picture quality and its easy to use. The only complaint I have is the bad directions. I spent nearly 4 hours putting it together! I've shopped around and read a lot of reviews and listened to over 20 surround systems and I have to say this blows any of them away. The Harman Kardon system and bose were the two systems I narrowed my search down to, but the bose brand just doesn't make a good quality system. Bose systems are made with cheap products that sound good at the store but when you bring them home they don't sound nearly as good. Thats because they use over $5,000 dollars worth of technology to make it sound good at the stores. Overall I rate this system a 5 out of 5.
