Great for my surround sound.

The screw holes are so close on the mounting bracket that you can't put the wall anchors in the drywall without chewing up all the 'grip' area.

HK are apparently unable to resolve this issue - the off-shored customer service department are very frustrating to deal with.

If you purchase this and plan to install it yourself, here is what you need to know -- that the manufacturer doesn't tell you in the installation manual.

Deploying the sub-woofer in anything but a very small room will require you to purchase two types of extension cables that are not included. The first is a standard RCA cable -- easy enough to find. The second is for the "trigger cable," which automatically turns the subwoofer's separate power supply on/off when an audio signal is detected/lost. (saves on your electric bill, prevents you from having to turn the sub on/off separately every time you want to listen to your system.)

The cord appears nearly identical to the single-prong stereo cord you might plug in to a smart device to use a pair of ear phones. Almost any electronics store will sell you this type of stereo extention cord. It will NOT work to trigger the sub. You must find a nearly-identical-looking MONO cable -- and those are quite rare. (No, Harmon Kardon does not sell them) After much searching, I could only find them at Radio Shack -- and they're only 6 ft long, so you'll probably need several. Search for Catalog # 42-2472.

Be careful with the size of woodscrews that you use to install the wall plate -- for mounting the sattelite speakers to the wall. (also not included!) I learned the hard way that, if the head of the screw is even slightly too large, it will deform the upper flange of the wall plate, making it impossible to fit the mounting bracket to it.

These two issues made installation a much bigger pain that it needed to be. HK should provide a complete list of necessary parts for a typical installation - and they don't.

Once you get past the installation, the sound quality is reasonable for the price you pay.

Note - I purchased this system direct from HK, not Amazon. I have only had excellent customer service from Amazon & wished I'd bought it from them, I'm sure they would have resolved my issue to my satisfaction.

Upon receiving this system from HK, I tested it an all worked fine. I went ahead & installed the satellites to wall & routed cables thru walls, etc. After the install, the sub woofer failed and would not turn on. I took the unit to an authorized service center, where the issue was confirmed and it was determined that the subwoofer amplifier requires replacement. That was 2 months ago. Unfortunately, replacement parts are not available. HK are apparently unable to resolve this issue - the off-shored customer service department are very frustrating to deal with. I wish I had not purchased this system. I'm going to cut my losses, purchase a replacement subwoofer from another manufacturer & will never buy another HK/JBL product again.

07/16/14 - Update
In fairness, an update to my review is needed. Ok, well after I tried to post the above review on the HK website (which is moderated, so my review never made it!), I was phoned by HK customer service in the USA. Replacement sub-woofers & spares for my system were indeed unavailable, but they ended up sending me a JBL ES150P instead. So my HKTS 16 are in the white finish, the JBL sub is black and although it's JBL's entry level model, has a better spec than the one that comes with the HK system. Not really ideal. The repair shop returned the defective HK sub directly to Harmon & were taken care of by HK. All in all, I'm not totally satisfied with how things ended up and still wouldn't consider HK or JBL in future unless customer support is on-shored back to the US. I'm perfectly OK with my electronics failing from time to time, that's gonna happen - but customer service should never fail, and life is too short to deal with the frustration I went thru.

Bought this system for $400 a few months ago and have been using it since. For the money, it really is an excellent speaker system. Sound clarity is very very good; treble is clear and crisp; bass is pronounced and tight without sounding muffled or boomy. These compare well to the Polk RM85 system I had years ago. That system cost me $700, including the subwoofer.

I'm pleased with the sound but I must give 3 stars at best purely for the ridiculous installation. The original reviewer complaining about the 'size of the screw' left us hanging as to what exactly the problem was. I will expand on what he said.

I don't think they make screws with the outer diameter of the heads small enough to actually work with the stupid-small mount tabs they provide. When you screw the screw in all the way, the top 2 screw holes (there are 3 holes in a triangular shape) are positioned so close to the tab/flange that they mash it towards the wall, making it impossible to set the speaker mounting notch onto it. You have to back the screw out to let the tab/flange relax back to a decent distance from the wall.
You are then left with a wobbly mount.

And forget wall anchors. The screw holes are so close on the mounting bracket that you can't put the wall anchors in the drywall without chewing up all the 'grip' area.

Harmon Kardon wall mount geniuses -- please include the screws to mount these things because I will probably have to get a machine shop to build me what I need.. Gheez.
