Product Description

From the Manufacturer

From the Manufacturer Listeners love the iPod for a variety of reasons, including its high-quality sound, clever design, and user-friendly functions. Harman Multimedia pays tribute to this efficiency with its JBL On Stage docking speaker system, which broadcasts your favorite iPod music while offering many of the same creative benefits as the iPod itself. The device employs four Odyssey Neodymium drivers to deliver a full spectrum of audio--from profound bass notes to crisp high frequencies--along with computer-optimized equalization that seamlessly blends the tones for clarity. The device makes a natural companion to most versions of the iPod. The JBL On Stage is compatible with all versions of the iPod, except the iPod Photo. It also connects to other portable audio devices, such as MP3 players, CD players, and laptops, via its stereo mini-jack connection., with a sleek, inventive housing that cradles the iPod body while adding a modern touch to your décor. The device is also compact--measuring 7 inches in diameter and 2 inches tall--meaning you can take it virtually anywhere. Merely stuff it in a backpack, suitcase, or car compartment, and enjoy its full-bodied audio while on the road.

The JBL On Stage come with adapters for all versions of the iPod, including the iPod nano.

As with any device that accompanies an Apple product, the On Stage is also remarkably easy to use, with a touch volume control and a full iPod charger. A simple touch of either pad increases or decreases the volume, while touching both pads simultaneously mutes or unmutes the speakers. The On Stage also remembers your last volume setting even after the system shuts down. Charging your iPod is effortless as well--merely plug the iPod wall charger into the On Stage and rest the iPod in the dock. The On Stage takes care of the rest. Listeners can also charge their iPods by plugging the On Stage d irectly to a computer with the OnePoint connectors. The system charges the iPod whether it's powered on or not.

The JBL On Stage is compatible with all versions of the iPod, including the iPod mini. It also connects to other portable audio devices, such as MP3 players, CD players, and laptops, via its stereo mini-jack connection.

What's in the Box
JBL On Stage, AC Adapter, mini-jack connector cable, and adapters to fit the various iPod models.

An important note from JBL:
You may have heard that a very few customers (currently fewer than 1%) have experienced a problem with JBL On Stage.

The problem will present itself in one of two ways: Either the unit no longer works or the volume can't be controlled. This condition may occur ONLY if all of the following conditions are present:

  1. You dock your iPod to JBL On Stage while both products are on and
  2. A significant charge of static electricity transfers from you to the JBL On Stage volume control and
  3. A specific chip was used in your JBL On Stage.
JBL wants to emphasize that there is no safety issue.

JBL is offering to replace your JBL On Stage at no cost to you except for the shipping cost to their warehouse (JBL will pay return shipping), should you have a JBL On Stage with a defective chip. First, find out whether your unit has the defective chip by going to http://www.jbl.com/home/product_support/jblonstage.aspx.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound at a decent price, April 25, 2006
This review is from: JBL On Stage Speakers for iPod (Electronics)
The B model is an updated version of the original On Stage, and now includes connections for the Nano & Video iPods. I don't see a need for the remote control which comes with the more costly On Stage II.

I bought the JBL On Stage over a year ago for $110 (the current price should be lower) in order to have portable sound when travelling. Some pre-2006 units had a defective chip, but this one worked flawlessly out of the box. Never had a problem with it. The sound is very good for the compact size -- surprisingly good bass response -- but still keep in mind that this is a portable speaker set, not a high-fidelity home stereo component. Surprisingly loud volume for such a small unit -- plenty to fill a hotel room. By now, adapters for all the iPods should be included -- for my unit, JBL mailed me free one for my 4G 30GB (request via their website). The separate AC power supply is rather heavy and bulky (to supply enough power to drive loud volume), but still portable. I do not see the justification for buying the newer, more-costly On Stage II model unless you're desperate for a remote control.

PLUS:

- good sound quality

- small size, portable

- easy to use, logical controls and functions

- good ergonomics and styling

- charges iPod

MINUS:

- HEAVY AC power supply (included). A 6 watt unit takes a lot of power to pump out so much volume, so it draws a lot of juice (no batteries, folks.)

NET: I like and highly recommend this unit. Shop around, pricing varies quite a bit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value for Price!, March 8, 2006
This review is from: JBL On Stage Speakers for iPod (Electronics)
Same product as the On Stage 2, but with no remote...

But is a remote worth $60 to you? Not for me...

The remote offeres Volume and Track up/down... not worth $60.

Produces great sound for such a small package. Very bright and fills a room. Sounds better than products selling for much more. However, be aware that with such small drivers that base response is limited! But what do you expect? It does better than I expected!

Likes:

- Great sound for Size/Price

- Functions as Dock/Charger ($40 for IPOD DOCK)

- Aux Input allows for other devices such as Satelite Radio

- Sleek design looks great

Dislikes:

- While it works with 30gb Video, the adapter doesn't really fit... perhaps the 60gb Would fit better(since it's thicker)

- Would like the ability to purchase a remote as an add on option.

Consider that all compact units have the speakers too close together for proper imaging/sound stage... so they've placed them a little to the side... this really fills the room with Sound. Be aware that with the 4 small drivers that bass is limited, but it does more than an admirable job.

One note about 1 star reviews. They SHOULD be deleted by Amazon, or should not have been posted in the first place. They are a grievence between the customer and Amazon... not with the On Stage product. The reviewers are hurting the products rating, not Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars On Stage B, December 7, 2005

This review is from: JBL On Stage Speakers for iPod (Electronics)
This model is an updated version of the original and adds support for the Nano & Video iPods. Other than support for the new models it remains the same great product as the original On Stage.

If you need the remote wait for the On Stage II, personally I didn't so this one fits my needs (and it costs less!).
