5.0 out of 5 stars Not Like Anything Else in Rock-n-Roll September 25, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
Harmony Square is one solid uninterrupted track of new musical themes set to a Medieval storyline. Its not quite a Rock Opera, but its not far from it. Its not quite a lot of things, but it calls up a lot of "its not quite's". You can find what you want in it - the band has been compared by reviewers to a lot of different groups but they are distinctly themselves.

Aaron Brooks has outdone himself laying down these notes. You are going to have a half-dozen or so themes running in your head after you listen the first time. Plus he has a unique voice as lead singer, a kind of crooning, kind of wailing and definitely Outre.

The storyline is a tale using Medieval folkloric archetypes. (I swore to use 'Medieval Folkloric Archetypes' at least once in this review!) Nothing is really unfamiliar, so it doesn't take your attention away from the music.

Ricky Phillips on guitar! Some of you may remember him from when he was with Waterband. Joe Kidd on drums! and Spider Monkey on bass! I'm not going to try to verbally describe music you will only understand if you hear it.

You will definitely listen more than once.

<full disclosure: I stayed with the band for a while in Germany where they now live after migrating from their home in Akron, Ohio>
