I have never used a bean slicer or french-er before, bought this as a backup to a crank french-er. When i bought it I thought from the picture that the end of the tool was to take off the bean tips. It works, but a it would work better if the end blade open and closed . Less risk of taking part of thumb tip. the french-er part of the tool is OK for a hand tool but not much better than a kitchen knife. Would help if manufacture would include some kind of instruction or even a picture of how to use.

My husband and I brought about 5 pounds of Green Beans so I could try out my new Green Bean Slicer and it's was fast, fun. I was able to fly through them in no time at all, I used to do them with my knife by hand, it was so time consuming and took for ever. My new Green Bean Slicer was so quick that I wish I had more to do! Thanks - Chris

This little gadget is truly a "Must Have" in your kitchen. When the Summer Harvest of French beans are ready, this little gadgets makes quick work of peeling strings & slicing all in one operation.. I have t least 4 of these "I would never want to be with out one on hand. Plus when ever friends have seen me use one, Another one disappears from the kitchen as they leave. I have given many as gifts. And at the price it is an affordable gift. Worth the money & delivery was quick , Wonderful item.

If you like french cut green beans, look no further. I had read in someones blog where they had used this tool, and to be honest I was a little skeptical. For the price I couldn't resist to give it a try and have no regrets. Very easy to use and clean. It has stayed sharp and for the most part, except for very few (mostly short) green beans, this has to be one of the greatest little gadgets made.

I got this for canning which was a poor choice since I had a LOT to do. That said, it worked like a champ. For canning, I should have gotten something that would accomodate several beans at once. But, if you want something for preparing a meal, you can't go wrong with this little guy. It will not cut a bean with larger seeds inside the pod so it only works with the optimal product. The price is right and I'm glad I have a couple in my kitchen drawer.

Crazy at it sounds, those beans taste better when cut lengthwise. Sure you have to put them through this device one at a time, and the "stringer" takes a little more than the string. But, boy if you ever sliced a bowl of green beans by hand, you know the meaning of infinity.

Recommended.

My husband enjoys this slicer. It is a bit time consuming though. We much prefer french style so it is worth the extra time. based on other reviews, we used a knife to cut the tips and solely used the slicer function.

This is the second (identical) one I've bought, I'll keep buying these.
Cleaver, easy to use, for long sliced string
beans (they taste better, cook more tender, absorb butter better when sliced long ways).

Our family tradition is to serve long sliced string beans every Thanksgiving, it takes a long while to do a big pot, one bean at a time, but the results are always appreciated and worth the time (most efficient way to cut them is with this tool).

Note: it makes a difference which side of the string bean is facing up in the tool, the sides of the tool can remove the hard tough seam in the bean, if you position the bean correctly in the tool when slicing. Discard the tough strand that is removed from the sides.
