Prefect for slicing strawberries,

I bought this specially for slicing strawberries, and I'm happy to say it works great. When strawberries are on sale, I will buy 5-6 pounds at a time and of course I can't eat them all at once, so I would dehydrate them and slicing all those strawberries by hand was time consuming. So after reading many reviews, in particular, Cook's Illustrated, I decide to go with this one. I'm pleased that I did. I also use this for bananas, which of course I cut down to fit this slicer, quick and easy and it makes nice even slices. Someday I might use it on an egg....

I used this for the first time last night to slice mushrooms. It was flawless. I just sat the mushroom down, pushed the bar down, and the sliced mushroom sits on top, ready to be dumped in the bowl. There are a series of wires that slice through the item, and then the wires sit below in the grooves, making it painless to remove the item just sliced. Great little device!

My mom had one of these when I was a youngster. Really makes nice round or oval egg slices. Useful. Have you ever tried to cut a hard-boiled egg and gotten good results with even a sharp knife? Knife doesn't quite cut it (lol)! This little gadget makes slicing the egg a snap and that in itself makes it worthwhile. Nice even slices for sandwiches and salads. Well made. Recommend.

Coating Flaking Off -- Westmark Replaced!,
By Smorg (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Westmark W1020 Egg Slicer (Kitchen)
I purchased this egg slicer within the last 5 years after reading a favorable review. It works great, is very heavy duty, and I have used it regularly to slice olives and mushrooms, as well as eggs. However, the coating is now flaking off, and I'm looking for a stainless steel one to replace it.
August 9, 2010 -- Update After writing the above review, I contacted Westmark by e-mail, including photos of the coating flaking off, and explaining that I no longer had any proof of purchase. To my delight, Westmark shipped a new slicer to me, no questions asked! So, I am changing my rating to 4 stars, only because I still think a stainless steel base with the same quality of stainlees steel wires would be ideal. This is a very sturdy egg slicer. I recommend hand washing it. It has a 5 year warranty.

I bought this as a replacement for a slicer that fell apart. In comparison to that slicer, this one was incredibly light and felt flimsy. However, after using it, I found it to be a superior product. The wires cut all the way through, and past the holder, so there's no little piece left holding mushrooms together (my primary use for this product). It was also super easy to use. My fingers didn't get pinched anymore and there was nothing awkward about it's ergonomics.

I purchased this slicer a few months ago after having several plastic slicers break. So far it has proved to be a much studier option. I also love using this tool to slice strawberries and other soft fruits and vegetables. It works great every time!

I was replacing an older (broken) "egg slicer" that I primarily use for slicing strawberries. I decided on the reviews and the fact that this product was all metal to pay the extra dollars and get it. I am so happy I did. It feels so much more substantial than the plastic based model I'd been using. But the best part is that the cutting wires go all the way through the base that holds the item being cut. This means no pulling apart the slices, they are fully cut each time. Of course if you are trying not to cut all the way through for a "flower effect" or such just don't push all the way down.
Easy to use, easy to clean, I've only had it a couple weeks but have used it quite a bit so far and am very pleased.

The Westmark Egg Slicer is just what the doctor ordered. It is built to give years of service. Beats the cheaper ones you find in the stores any day. Should last for many years to come.

Gray marks on eggs,

We purchased the slicer less than a year ago. Recently it has been leaving gray marks on the eggs. I called Amazon and they said to contact La Prima Shops (the vendor). I did send an e-mail and have not received a reply--so much for their vaunted customer service. Called Amazon again and the rep said to return it for full credit, very nice. But what about the quality issue? A five year warranty and marked eggs--not too good.Westmark W1020 Egg Slicer
