2.0 out of 5 stars hard to cleen & wasteful
This product works okay. Will handle larger quantity of garlic cloves than your standard garlic press. But the crushed garlic is hard to remove from around the blades, and the gadget is overall hard to clean.

Why I bought this:
I bought this little thing because I do quite a bit of Chinese cooking, much of which requires some form of diced/minced garlic. The problem is, my wife would complain that my fingers reeked of garlic during the following days. Realizing that the frequency of my contact with garlic was inversely proportional to the frequency of getting some action in the bedroom, I resorted to using disposable latex gloves while I worked with garlic to avoid the subsequent stench. Needless to say, this became an inconvenient and discouraging hindrance to an otherwise enjoyable cooking session.

The solution:
In comes the Garlic Pro Dicer! It dices, it... dices. Ok well, that's all it claims to do.

The first impression:
Upon opening the package, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of heft the unit has. On top of that, the material appears to be high-impact plastic. I experimented a few times by dropping the product, first from a 6-inch height, then 12 inches, then 2 feet. I was excited. As I dangled the poor thing at a record 90 cm (that's 3 feet, folks), the wife barges in from the bedroom and demands that I stop making a ruckus.

Using the dicer:
I got out some of the peeled garlic we bought from the local Chinese market, and dropped 4 into the dicer. The top piece went down with some trouble, because I had to avoid the pieces of garlic as the blades went down. Apparently, these blades cannot force its way down. You will know what I mean once you use it. With a bit of elbow grease, I managed to make the first cut. The amount of strength required on the first turn was akin to opening a sealed pickle jar. Subsequent turns were much easier, although large, flat pieces tend to become stuck onto the sides, thus avoiding their inevitable fate.

Tips:
Upon placing the two halves together after inserting garlic, I realized that I could do myself a favor by aligning the blades of both pieces so that they overlap each other at the same location, thus avoid the garlic bumping fiasco altogether. Also, my wife had trouble making the first turn with 4 pieces of garlic simultaneously; 3 was manageable. After the first turn, you may want to shake the garlic inside a bit to redistribute the aforementioned flat pieces. This ensures maximal efficiency in garlic dicing and time-saving.

Conclusion:
All in all, I was able to cut down (no pun intended) my garlic mincing time to about 1 minute, including clean-up and washing. The bedroom has once again become a scene of activity, and my hands are once again for touching my wife, instead of garlic.

This works great, very little room for anything to go wrong, easy to use, easy to clean. High quality dicer, no reason to hesitate.

I saw this advertised in a catalog last year, and after a lot of thought purchased one for myself. I've found it to be extremely useful and convenient.

I use a lot of garlic when I cook, and prefer to use fresh cloves rather than canned, dried, or paste. However, finely chopping all those cloves can be tedious! This little contraption saves me a lot of time, and if you mind garlic-scented fingers it prevents that, too. I have found that I can use it easily with up to 8 cloves inside. If any garlic does stick between the blades, I just run a knife though and it slips right out.

As with most things, the sooner this is cleaned after use, the better. I always run it under hot water right after emptying it, swish it in sudsy water later, and then rinse again and allow it to air-dry.

If you have pain, arthritis, or mobility issues with your fingers, hands or wrists, this might not be the best thing for you, as it does involve gripping and twisting. Otherwise, it's easy to use and clean, and much less hassle than a food processor. I love mine so much that I recently bought one as a house-warming gift for my daughter, and always recommend it to friends. If you're not an ace with a knife and like to use garlic, this is a nice tool to have around!

1.0 out of 5 stars Does nothing more than my $10 Veggie Chopper, December 19, 2007
This review is from: Harold Imports Garlic Pro Dicer (Kitchen)
When I only need one or two cloves of garlic for cooking but in order to use the Garlic Pro I have to use at least 5 or 6 cloves (I'd be happier if they only tell you about this fact before my purchase). So now I have to hand peel all 5 or 6 cloves (how about the "no garlic fingers" comments by the other reviewers?). Then the Garlic Pro would chop it down into huge chunks and more twisting supposedly will get it finer at least my old veggie chopper can easily do that if I pump it a few times more. But it's just not true with the Garlic Pro and the big chunks of garlic refuse to budge and stay that way. Then a blade came loose and I took it back to the store I bought it from. After I got my money back I checked the others on the shelf some also have fine cracks and the blades will definitely come loose it's just a matter of time. Not sure why I bought it in the first place it doesn't do a thing more than my 10 year old $10 veggie chopper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harold Imports Garlic Pro Dicer, May 10, 2011

This is a very handy tool for those of us who prefer freshly-diced garlic. Given to me as a gift several years ago, it has been a big time saver. A good friend asked about it, so I just gave her one for her birthday. It's a good gift for cooks! I smash the cloves of garlic with a pestle or a knife, remove the skins, chop them up a little, then put them into the Dicer, give a few twists, and voila!

I have tried all kinds of garlic presses and slicers with not much luck. This is the greatest garlic slicer and dicer I have ever used. I especially love this roller peeler that comes with it. It looks a little strange but it really works. I highly recommend this product.

This review is from: Harold Imports Garlic Pro Dicer (Kitchen)
First of all this item is not remotely hard to clean it is very easy, all you need is a small kitchen brush and water, it cleans in a matter of seconds and as for the review that said that it was wasteful use the same brush and in a matter of a few seconds just brush the garlic in to whatever you are cooking
It is well made and is extremely easy to use and clean, I would give it a ten star rating if I could
