Great book on silent film star largely unknown today.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Harold Lloyd: The king of daredevil comedy (Paperback)
Through this book you will get to know Harold Lloyd, one of the 3 comedy stars of silent films (other than Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton). I saw "Safety Last", which was released in 1923, and enjoyed it so much that I wanted to read about Harold Lloyd. This book contains pictures from many of Lloyd's movies and makes you wish you could see them all. However, just the summaries and accompanying pictures are quite funny and make good reading. Lloyd was largely the same person offscreen as onscreen, lived a clean life with his wife and children and became one of the richest men in Hollywood at the time. The book also gives the modern reader an idea of what was involved in the production of the early silent films. Great book.

A great companion for all of the new Harold Lloyd fans out there,

This review is from: Harold Lloyd: The king of daredevil comedy (Paperback)
Thank God, Harold Lloyd (1893-1971), one of the great American actors of the silent film era, is going through a sort of renaissance. This 1977 book is a great companion for all of the new Harold Lloyd fans out there. It begins with a relatively short biography of the great actor, and then goes into a filmography of his short films, followed by a filmography of his feature films. The listing of shorts includes the title, date released, number of reels (if over one), and a quick introduction to the film. The listing of features includes a listing of the cast and crew, release date, length, an in-depth description of the film's plot, and any other pertinent information.
This is a very good book, and a great resource on Mr. Lloyd. I loved the many black-and-white pictures that are included, and I felt that the author did a very good job of giving the reader all of the information he or she would want on the many Harold Lloyd films. If you want to know about Harold Lloyd and his films, then I would recommend that you get this book, you won't be disappointed! |
