Book Description

September 1, 2002
If you enjoy reading about the lives of great Christians, you’ll love this biography of Harold St. John. Harold's daughter, Patricia St. John, did the Christian world an enormous favor when she put together this fascinating portrait of her father. Somehow her portrayal manages to be exciting, inspiring, challenging, amusing and edifying all at the same time. It makes compelling reading from start to finish--hard to put down once you’ve picked it up. Harold was one of the most gifted Bible teachers of his day, and the story of his life and influence is as relevant now as ever. His life was hid with Christ in God, and out of his inward parts there flowed a river of joy and peace and blessedness that enriched everyone it touched.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

This biography has been out of print for many years and only available from select used book dealers. Kingsley Press considers it a great privilege to be able to make this amazing story available once again to all who are interested in getting to know more about the life of this man of God. The publishers were personally acquainted with the author before she passed on, and the re-publishing of this title has been undertaken with the full concurrence and hearty co-operation of the author's sister, Hazel.

About the Author

Patricia St. John is best known for her numerous children's books, which have blessed generations of young people. Such titles as "Treasures of the Snow", "The Tanglewood's Secret", and "The Mystery of Pheasant Cottage" hold a special place in many a heart and mind. Some of her stories are now available in 40 different languages, and some have been made into full length films.

But Patricia St. John did not only write for children; she wrote a number of books for grown-ups, too, and the biography of her father is not least among them. It is a spiritual classic in its own right. Anyone who remembers reading her children's stories in their growing up years will delight to read about the father, the parents, and the home that shaped and molded Patricia St. John.

Patricia served for many years on the mission field in Africa, and she was involved in children's work in various parts of the world. She remained active in the work of the Lord until her death in 1993.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Christian Biography, August 26, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Harold St. John (Paperback)
I first read this book a number of years ago, and am delighted to find it in print again. Harold St. John was a British Christian who traveled widely (approximately 1915-50) helping to establish Bible schools and encourage growing churches in remote areas. His family of five children were in England, with their very capable mother, and the family ties of love and respect were strong in spite of long absences. This is a story of a man who was devoted to Christ and who humbly served others in love. It is a story that is encouraging because it is about a man "who took his stand on the side of tolerance, personal humility, and broad charity, in so far as they were compatible with basic doctrinal truth." In other words, he was easy going but not wishy washy. If you liked Patricia St. John's children's stories, you will be interested in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great biography, January 23, 2010
This review is from: Harold St. John (Paperback)
I have an older version of this book, so I have not actually purchased the one shown here on Amazon. I therefore cannot vouch for the condition of the newer publication shown here, as far as pages being upside-down as one reviewer mentioned. However, the biography itself is an excellent one, well-written by his daughter (a proficient and very interesting writer), and the content is inspiring and uplifting. I'm sure people who knew him personally would agree that his life was worth recording, for the enjoyment and edification of others. He was a man with single-minded devotion to God, and that devotion displayed itself in a joyful, abundant life and love for others. "Love begets love," I have been told, and Harold St. John certainly understood God's love for him... and that produced love in his own heart for God and for others. He was a good example, and thanks to this biography, he still is.

1.0 out of 5 stars Harold St.John, December 31, 2007
This review is from: Harold St. John (Paperback)
The book condition itself in appearance is good, but when opened the book has pages 33-64 inserted in the book upside down. Not a saleable item in my view, unless it is a collector's item(haha). But I think not. Anyway, otherwise good condition.
