5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST!
I've studied German for many years, and I've used a lot of different dictionaries, but this one has to be among the best I've used. If you're not sure how to translate a word, the entries provide usages for each word, which is great when you're trying to translate a word with multiple meanings! It helps avoid embarrassing situations! :)

2.0 out of 5 stars Disgusting - ink rubs off if you touch the pages
I had to get this and no other German dictionary for a class in high school. This recommends the book as being well compiled and good for information. However the printing job is the worst imaginable. Ink will rub off on your fingers if you rub the pages and as you thumb through on your way to looking things up. And to make things worse the teacher who required us to...

I had to get this and no other German dictionary for a class in high school. This recommends the book as being well compiled and good for information. However the printing job is the worst imaginable. Ink will rub off on your fingers if you rub the pages and as you thumb through on your way to looking things up. And to make things worse the teacher who required us to buy this and only this dictionary was allergic to the ink and got ticked if we brought a dictionary to her desk. She wouldn't touch them.

To a certain extent a dictionary is a dictionary. The Harrap's Concise German dictionary will leave ink on your fingers and feels disgusting to use. Even if someone gave me one I would avoid using it or touching it. Buy another brand of dictionary and never touch a Harrap's with your clean un-rash-covered fingers.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best paperback German Dictionary, January 28, 2005
This review is from: Harrap's Concise English-German Dictionary: Worterbuch Deutsch-Englisch (Paperback)
This is the best German dictionary of its size I have ever seen, and I have been in the translating business for over 40 years. It has been especially useful to me when I needed to write something in German while I was traveling and didn't have access to the larger works. Note: This is British English, and the ink tends to smudge if you don't turn the pages carefully. It will last a few years with frequent use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dictionary is still current and useful abroad, October 27, 2009
This review is from: Harrap's Concise English-German Dictionary: Worterbuch Deutsch-Englisch (Paperback)
This dictionary is one of the best I've used because it's not just useful in school learning the German Language but also in Europe where you have to know what you're speaking about (literally). Highly recommended to those building their German vocabulary and others trying to improve the precision of their speech.
