Repression and Disintergration.,
By Victoria Fox (Bedlignton, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Life and Death of Harriet Freane (Virago Modern Classics) (Mass Market Paperback)
Harriet Frean, is a book that turns full circle. Harriet starts as a child and ends that way when she dies. When she finds herself in love with her best frineds fiance she finds she cannot be with him. Harriet denies herself a chance at love, but by doing this she "behaves beautifully". Ironic and suffocating, we see how Harriet is repressed by her parents view of 'beauty'. Even when they die Harriet is still trapped by their memories and cannot be liberated.
