Harriet Lane Handbook of Pediatrics,
By
This review is from: Harriet Lane Handbook and Harriet Lane Handbook of Pediatric Antimicrobial Therapy Package, 1e (Mobile Medicine) (Paperback)
This classic handbook is even available together as a package for $64,95 and indeed a good bargain with a lot of knowledge and hands-on practical advice. The handbook is available as print, but also with online access for the same price.
The Harriet Lane Handbook started in 1953, when six residents without funds or supervision from their superiors met around a table in the library of the Harriet Lane Home in order to develop a pocket size pearl book for other future residents. The teaching and guidance of residents have now moved to the Frank Oski Conference Room at the Children's Hospital and Surgical Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and without a doubt a pearl has been created, not only for the residents in Baltimore, but for many generations of pediatricinas around the world. This version is the 18th edition and that in itself testifies to the importance of this book. As a new companion we now have for the first time also the "Handbook of pediatric antimicrobial therapy" as a book in itself, because of the need for more information and advice on pharmacological options in the treatment of children. Both handbooks are for practitioners and clinicians working with children in a straighforward language and sound structure with a wealth of information available in pocket form for the busy house officer or resident in pediatric departments all over the world. I can only give my highest recommendation. A must-have for any personal medical library. Great concise information and pediatric dosages. It's nice when my pda program gives me a wide range of dosages to use for pediatric patients or does not have the dosage for the certain illness I am treating. Since these books are taylored for the peds population, as opposed to many of the pharm pda programs, I trust them a lot more.
