INFORMATIVE AND ENTERTAINING,

Harriett, a lovable raccoon, is not only homeless, she's also harried and hapless from time to time. You see, she's now on her own. She lived with assorted siblings in a small place, but as she grew older it was time for her to find a home of her own. Harriett's mom packed a knapsack for her and off she went. One house looked especially appealing to her, and she thought it must have a nice, warm attic. Unfortunately, the homeowners didn't particularly welcome raccoon company, and Harriett was captured in a cage. She was taken to another building, which turned out to be an artist's studio. Can you imagine what a playful raccoon might do with paint? Obviously, it's time for Harriett to make tracks again. Where will she find a home of her own? Mary Haverfield's warm and amusing watercolor painting are perfect companions for this story of a young animal on her own. In addition several pages with interesting facts about raccoons are included. "Harriett the Homeless Raccoon" is both entertaining and informative - recommended for children age 4 through 8. - Gail Cooke

Harriett is old enough now to live on her own. But where does a raccoon find a home? She looks all over, finally settling in the attic of a house. But soon she's caught and put in a shed. More trouble ensues and she makes an escape. What adds to this simple story for kids four to eight years old are the illustrations. Much of the story is gleaned through pictures so young readers can add to the story, making it come alive a little more every time it's read. Two pages of natural history about raccoons will engage young minds even more.
