The Harris Hawk: Management Training and Hunting,
By A Customer
This review is from: Harris Hawk, The: Management, Training and Hunting (Hardcover)
International Falconer magazine gave this book a rare poor review. Why would and American buy a book about and Training American hawk, written by a British falconer? The book contains a map of where Harris Hawks are supposed to live in the wild. He's way off. International Falconer says the author doesn't even train Harris Hawks. For a much better book try, Desert Hawking with a little help by Harry McElroy!

Did "A Customer" who wrote the previous review even read the book? It doesn't seem so. Lee William Harris has 20 years of falconry experience, was the owner of Owl-Eagle Falconry where he taught falconry and sold falconry equipment and supplies. Furthermore there are about 2,000 captive-raised Harris' hawks in the UK, so folks there do know something about them - they're one of the most popular hawks in Great Britain.
Lee William Harris's book is based on background research he conducted regarding the Harris Hawk coupled with his 2 years of training and flying a female Harris Hawk which he subsequently "gifted" to his girlfriend. The book provides basic information about the Harris hawk, its pros-and-cons versus Redtails, kestrels and goshawks, and takes the reader thru a day-by-day, week-by-week account of how the author obtained, trained and hunted his Harris hawk. If you are new to falconry and/or don't know much about the training and behavior of a Harris hawk this isn't a bad book to read.
