The most trusted textbook in medicine -- featuring the acclaimed Harrison's DVD with 57 additional chapters and exclusive video and tutorials

Now presented in TWO VOLUMES

As reviwed by JAMA:
"With the 18th edition, Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine retains its standing as a definitive clinical reference and remains an outstanding foundation for any physician or physician-in-training. In many regards, Harrison’s remains synonymous not just with internal medicine but with medicine in general. The editors of the 18th edition have skillfully balanced tradition with the desire and need for innovation. The result is a book that remains as fundamental to current medical practice as the first edition was in 1949."

Extensively revised and expanded by the world’s leading physicians, Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine, 18e continues to set the standard as the pinnacle of current medical knowledge and practice, offering the definitive review of disease mechanisms and management.

All chapters have been completely updated to reflect the latest knowledge and evidence, and important new chapters have been added, including: "Systems Biology in Health and Disease," "The Human Microbiome," "The Biology of Aging," and "Neuropsychiatric Illnesses in War Veterans."

Harrison's covers more global aspects of medicine than any other textbook, and features such chapters as "Global Issues in Medicine," by Jim Yong Kim, Paul Farmer, and Joseph Rhatigan, and new to the 18th edition, "Primary Care in Low and Middle Income Countries."

No other resource delivers coverage of disease mechanisms and management like Harrison's, including world-renowned chapters on HIV/AIDS, STEMI and non-STEMI myocardial infarction, cancer biology, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes.

The Harrison’s Multi-Media DVD— Better Than Ever!
The Harrison’s DVD has been expanded to include an extensive video demonstration of the neurological physical examination, and video tutorials on how to perform essential clinical procedures, including:

  • Thoracentesis
  • Abdominal Paracentesis
  • Endotracheal Intubation
  • Central Venous Catheter Placement

57 additional chapters and more than 2,000 images make the companion DVD an essential part of every physician's education, practice, and lifelong learning. The DVD also features PowerPoint presentations from fifty chapters to facilitate classroom lectures, and a free trial subscription to AccessMedicine.com (including Harrison's Online).

Harrison’s 18e is proud to present a tribute to longtime editor, Eugene Braunwald, MD for his outstanding and continuing contributions to medical knowledge and practice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lost chances! November 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
First of all, my comment specifically addresses the kindle edition and the technical side of it. As for the content, the book is amazing - no complaints there.
Amazon seems not to understand or just ignore the difference between fiction books that you read from page one onwards, possibly in one sitting, and academic handbooks.
I bought the book for my new iPad mini and as it is - it's nearly useless.
By buying this, you end up with a bunch of over 4000 numbered pages of text in digital format, just like you would scan the paper version.

1. There is no clickable or expandable table of contents.
2. You can't do full-text search, actually there is no text search at all.
3. There are no hyperlinks, the Index section is also plain text - no clickable reference to the actual pages.

Someone missed the possibilities that digital format gives and just took the path of the least ressistance.
I will be asking for a refund. If you are considering buying the kindle edition for your iPad, consider Inkling edition, which is a bit more expensive but a lot more useful.

I just downloaded the kindle version and all off the advertised videos are disabled! I feel a bit ripped off. Otherwise good graphics and an overall great book.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is PDF version December 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
'Harrison's principles of internal medicine' itself is the best book for understanding and refering internal medicine.
But, Kindle edition is the only PDF version. It is difficult to say this book kindle edition.
I think this book was made by scanning of paper book.

1.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful text spoiled by poor presentation August 12, 2012
By Preston
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The text is wonderful. The publisher has failed to recognize and harness what ebooks are about. The text is unreadably small, and moving from page to page is cumbersome. If I can find an alternate, I will be seeking a refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars E-Book Support - iPad, Nook, More December 17, 2011
By Omoh
Harrison's is a great line of books, and now they have partnered with other companies to provide robust ebook data. Here is information on it

"For readers who wish to continue using Harrison's in a single volume format, we are pleased to offer two new eBook versions of the 18th edition: a traditional eBook, with text and illustrations from the new edition included for reading on a portable e-reader or on a desktop, and an enhanced eBook developed especially for new tablet devices (e.g., iPad, Galaxy, Playbook, Nook) that offer high-definition resolution of multimedia content and interactive features. The Harrison's 18th edition enhanced eBook will contain extensive embedded video footage, including all of the new clinical procedural videos; the wonderful neurologic examination videos from Samuels and Lowenstein; examples of cardiovascular imaging and assessment; and high-resolution versions of more than 2000 color images from the book and the Harrison's atlases on the companion DVD. Along with other social media features, the enhanced eBook offers users the opportunity to take and share notes from lectures and their own reading. Additional resources include Harrison's Online, a continuously updated electronic resource that highlights and summarizes newly published articles on significant medical findings and advances. Harrison's Self-Assessment and Board Review, a useful study guide for board review based on information in the 18th edition, will soon be produced. Harrison's Manual of Medicine, a pocket version of Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, is available in both print and electronic formats. "

2.0 out of 5 stars Not more than a mere pdf file December 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
1) it is not working on my android 2.2 phone samsung galaxy SL gt-19003. message is displayed by kindle reader is that this book is incompatible. this phone already runs my other kindle book braunwald heart disease very nicely.

2) i could open the book on my windows computer. i realized that the kindle edition of this book is nowhere near expectations. it is not possible to adjust font size, words per line, lines and columns per page etc. which are vital for reading on a mobile device. otherwise it is not more than a pdf file of a book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! August 9, 2011
By isabel
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I love these books!!! First of all, they are beautiful! The pages don't seem to be as shiny as the previous edition, which is always a plus if you study under lamp light. Tons of illustrations, photographs and charts. The ink on a couple of pages does seem to be a little off, but nothing major. I've only just started using them but from what I've seen so far it is awesome. Latest classifications and diagnostic criteria for diseases like RA. Also the dvd seems to be very useful. I've only gone through the neurology exam, but it seems to be a high quality video with important information. I think these books are worth it, especially for the price!
