Good Morning America featured this coffee-table book on their show today, and now I know exactly what I want for Christmas. Having poured over it at the book store, I can't imagine a better gift. Famed photojournalist Harry Benson, one of the most venerated photographers in the world, has collected over 300 photos (many never before seen) of some of the most iconic figures of our time. Not just celebrities (though there are pages and pages of the most interesting inmate portraits of everyone from Michael Jackson to Brad Pitt to The Beatles), there are photos that document history, as well: Martin Luther King, Jr. during the days of the Civil Rights movement and his marches through the South; US presidents from Eisenhower to Obama; the assassination of Robert Kennedy; the rise and fall of the Berlin Wall--and so much more. Benson has been there in a flash--ready to capture the moment, from the minute the Beatles had their first hit record (there's his famous shot of The Beatles having a pillow fight in their pajamas) to the moment Nixon resigned: It's all there. This book will take you on a ride through history and amaze you that someone actually got all this on film. Also features an interesting introduction by long-time Tiffany & Co. design director John Loring, an uber-famous New York insider known for good taste. Loring obviously knows great books AND great jewelery. This book is a gem, all right. So put this in your pack, Santa, and hurry down the chimney tonight!

This remarkable book spans 60 years in the career of the legendary photojournalist Harry Benson's career, from his early days on London's Fleet Street to Benson arriving in America with the Beatles in 1964 and subsequently photographing eleven, yes, eleven U.S. presidents from Eisenhower to Obama. It is an amazing photographic journey through the last half of the 20th century. From the Berlin Wall going up to the Berlin Wall coming down, to marching with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to being next to Senator Robert F. Kennedy when he was shot, Benson has been there to document it for history. Incredible photographs of an incredible time.
