Product Description
WGN announcer Pat Hughes presents Harry Caray: Voice of the Fans, an audio/photo tribute to Chicago and St Louis sports broadcaster Harry Caray, one of the most beloved figures in baseball. Caray’s personality was as much a part of his charm as his broadcasting skill, and even ten years after his death, baseball fans across the country recall Caray fondly, both for his play-by play calls and his genuinely excited “Holy Cow!” exclamations during the games.

Pat Hughes has compiled Caray’s most famous calls and broadcasts onto a CD that accompanies the book. By combining Harry’s voice with photos and stories of the Cards and Cubs, Harry Caray: Voice of the Fans will give readers not only a fond memory of Caray, but also a “where were you when...?” for many famous games, such as Ryne Sandberg’s double game-tying home runs in 1984.

From the Inside Flap
“Hello again, everybody!”

For more than 50 years, we settled in with Harry Caray to enjoy the Cubs, Sox or Cards. Week after week, on the radio or TV, Harry was the voice of baseball in Chicago and St. Louis.

“You can’t beat fun at the old ballpark!”

Harry Caray brought ballgames to life and spoke for the fans with his enthusiastic
broadcasts. Harry Caray: Voice of the Fanslets you hear Harry again:
• Gasping as Ryne Sandberg twice ties the game with home runs on June 23, 1984
• Enlivening the St. Louis Cardinals’ pennant run in 1964 and the Chicago Cubs’ playoff stretch in 1984
• Commiserating with the Chicago White Sox during the 1970s
• And of course, singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”

“Cubs win! Cubs win! Cubs win!”

RELIVE THE EXCITEMENT OF CLASSIC BASEBALL MOMENTS WITH HARRY CARAY ON THE ACCOMPANYING AUDIO CD

PAT HUGHES has been a big league baseball broadcaster for 25 seasons-12 with the Chicago Cubs on WGN-Radio, 12 with the Milwaukee Brewers, and one with the Minnesota Twins. His Baseball Voices: The Hall Of Fame Series of audio CDs has featured Harry Caray, Jack Buck and Marty Brennaman. Now in production are Bob Uecker and Harry Callas, with many more to follow. Pat lives near Chicago with his wife, Trish, and daughters Janell and Amber.

BRUCE MILES covers the Chicago Cubs for the Daily Herald in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He has been the Cubs beat writer since 1998. He has covered baseball since 1989 and began listening to Harry Caray faithfully in 1971, when Harry came to the South Side.

3.0 out of 5 stars Holy Cow, May 22, 2008
I learned a lot I didn't know but I thought the c.d. would have more of my favorite announcer and not just him being talked about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harry Caray book, June 18, 2008
I have to say that this is awsome. Thanks Pat Hughes, Harry and any other contributers. Highly recommended to anyone, even if you are not that much of a ball fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Cow, June 9, 2008
By Mammer "Lee-ah" (Knee Deep in Mud, IN) - See all my reviews
It is a great book in that it tells a side of Harry Carey's life as a broadcaster that I never knew. I learned quite a few things about him, plus one of my friend's grandson is pictured in the book. (He is the one with the big glasses and the ivy on his head. He is a big Cub's fan!) My son-in-law loved the book, too! Great reading!

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty, but too "fluffy" for a true Cub fan
I bought this book for my sister, who has been an avid Cubs fan since the early 1980's. There were no customer reviews yet but I thought I'd take a chance. Read more
