This award winning performance is outstanding! Featured here
with his whole Big Band, he and the band are both on fire!
You can't go wrong. The first short section at the beginning of
the tape features Harry with his drummer and bass player just
getting together to have a jam session which is then
followed by the full band perfromance. A+++++.
My only regrets are that they don't release this on DVD format. Hint!

I have watched this concert so many times that I have worn out the VHS tape. Needless to say, I was hoping it had been released on DVD as my VCR (1989) is also wearing out. This performance is timeless and classic and deserves to be re-released on a more durable format.

I luv every minute of it since I pick this up on VHS. And it didn't dissappointed at all. It was still a beginning 4 me to try some different, you know somethin new. I luv the fact that Harry Connick Jr (one of my new favorites to add) is such a genius when he's on the piano and on leading the big band and stuff. I compare him to the sounds of Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, among others. I recommend it to anybody who luvs big bands and/or else never heard of HCJ.

From what I've seen to date, this is Harry's most outstanding jazz concert recorded on film. Although the New York concert (which has been released on DVD) is more well-known, I feel that this one, filmed in Dallas, is musically more interesting. He tackles some really difficult music, which the band absolutely COOKS on (especially the opening full-band track with the stratospheric trumpets). The arrangements are clever and effective, and the offbeat mood suits the style of music played.

One of the coolest moments is Harry's solo piano version of the great (and demanding) standard "Avalon", which proves beyond any doubt that his pianistic skills are in the top echelon of contemporary players.

Towards the end of the concert things get a little more 'commercial' - and I do not mean that in a negative way - just that the songs are better known and he pulls out some of his favourites. The concert ends with a Dixie-lineup of band members marching through the crowd playing "When the Saints", with Harry on bass drum, having a whale of a time.

Lots of fun for the general fan, but also good and meaty for the true muzos amongst you!

A truly fantastic concert caught on tape. Harry sings with his big band in a very entertaining show, with a couple songs that he has never released on any albums. This is the best of his concert on tape. I highly recommend it! (I own it on Laser Disc).

A great look at his early career. It is hard to beat the Majestic as a venue too.

As a native New Orleanian, as is Harry, this is truly some of his best! To Harry Connick, Jr. lovers, I've been in search of his live concert in New Orleans in at some time between 1985-1990 and I can't find it anywhere.....any info would be much appreciated.

Let's get going and put this one on DVD 5.1 Surround. It deserves it.
