Yep, I've been waiting for this one, also. One of the best family movies I can remember, yet it is quite entertaining for adults as well as children. Very funny story of what happens when the legendary Bigfoot creature collides into the lives of an average suburban family. The character interactions are quite touching as the family becomes emotionally attached to this "lovable monster" that doesn't know his own strength and keeps wrecking their house and deforming their car. The casting is excellent, the story is simple but well-executed, and the plot build-up is well-paced, and the ending is satisfying, leaving you with a warm fuzzy feeling.
The Bigfoot creature is INCREDIBLY authentic-looking, and pulls off a remarkably wide range of facial expressions that help lend to his believability, lovability, and humor. Frankly, I think if the creature had not been so well executed, the movie would not be so great. I hope there is a "making-of" featurette on this DVD that shows how they made this character (it's a Special Edition, there's gotta be!).
I can watch this film again and again. I think it truly is a classic. Movies like this are few and far between.

When our adult children were small they loved this film. Now we have an eight year old who is extremely physically handicapped but is mentally alert. He absolutely loves this film. When I hold it up to see if he wants to watch it and he gets the biggest smile. It is a film that children never get tired of and we adults love it too. I had actually forgotten about this movie until I ran across it one day and I immediately ordered it. I am so glad it finally came out on DVD.

When the Henderson family (John Lithgow, Melinaa Dillon, Margaret Langrick and Joshua Ruddy) are having a camping trip and on their way home, they accidently hit Bigfoot (Kevin Peter Hall) and decide to take him home. Later on it's really alive and not really a fierce monster but a gentle and kind creature that gets temporary shelter thanks to the family for he becomes their friend. The authorities want him and a crazed hunter (David Suchet) wants Harry dead, the Hendersons especially George must do everything to get him back to the wild.

A touching, entertaining and hilarious comedy from producer Steven Spielburg co-stars Don Amech and M. Emmet Walsh that offers good laughs and incredible puppetry and make-up effects for it's time that nearly rivals CGI as the beast himself is very convicing and realistic. The acting is very good and there is a heartbreaking moment guaranteed to make you cry, i remembered when i was 5 in the summer of 1987 seeing this moive on the big screen and loved it, this is a must see movie for the whole family and kids & adults alike.

The DVD has excellent picture and sound with some good extras like audio commentary by director William Dear, theatrical trailer, deleted scenes, two featurettes and behind the scenes with "Making of Harry and The Hendersons".

When I first noticed Harry and the Hendersons on television, my first thought was that this was going to be a chessy Bigfoot flick, boy was I dead wrong. This is a great movie, for watching with family and friends, or for catching on cable for just relaxing and watching a fun movie. Harry is very lovable and the films climax is very good with a great ending. I have read this book as well which has a very good tagline, that it's well played through the movie and the book.
"When you can't believe your eyes, trust your Heart",
this played with the cover of the book just tugs at your heart just giving you a good filling, I think it's a good line to follow.

This was my mother's favorite movie, she fell in love with it. I finally watched this movie after she passed away, I have to admit it is a great movie and I can see what my mother liked about it, it was cute and is good for kids of all ages, great family movie. The only dissapointment is not even the movie itself, it is the studio who to date has not put this movie out on DVD. Hopefully it will be soon. I give this movie five stars as my mom would it gave it five! It is a great movie, very cute!!

This movie is just such a classic....so glad it's out on DVD finally! Can't wait to get mine. Both my children love this movie. My first saw it years ago when it first came out, and now my new little darlings are enjoying it all over again. I had taped it years ago when it was on HBO and the tape is barely hanging on now...and although it skips and hops and fuzzes out, we still watch it and laugh and spend some great family time together enjoying the antics of Harry and his adopted Henderson family. As I said, the DVD can't get here soon enough!

THIS MOVIE IS GREAT!! I FIRST SAW IT WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL AND I COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING MY BUTT OFF! IT IS MEMORIES SUCH AS THE ONES THIS MOVIE EVOKES THAT PEOPLE HOLD DEAR!! PERHAPS WHERE THE MAGIC ABOUT THIS MOVIE LIES IS IN THE FACT THAT IT MAKES US LAUGH AND FEEL LIKE CHILDREN AGAIN! I'D BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS MOVIE ON DVD FOR YEARS AND I'VE FINALLY FOUND IT ON "EBAY." BELIEVE ME, AMONGST SUCH MASTERPIECES AS "GLADIATOR, MONSTERS INC., THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY, THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, SHREK AND MANY OTHERS", THIS MOVIE WILL FIND A SPOT!!

Harry is a loveable character who you never get tired of seeing. We have watched this movie numerous times as a family over the years, and never get tired of it. John Lithgow's best work in my opinion.

Even though made as a comedy, this is the best portrayal of Bigfoot Hollywood has ever come up with, thanks to the very convincing make-up talents of Rick Baker, the master of the trade. I've been waiting for and requesting this one for years. A family entertainment delight. FINALLY!

My 4 kids watched this at least 5 times on EVERY family taken in our converted van. Since I was the driver, I could only hear the words, but heard the laughter coming from my kids and husband! It has been a VERY memorable movie for our family, as we can relate to the many funny things happening in the movie. Never will we forget this wonderful family movie filled with laughter, love and MEMORIES! I finally bought the movie for myself. I could recite practically every line of the movie but never had the chance to watch the actual video! I LOVE IT!
