From School Library Journal
Grade 2–3—This introduction to the life of magician and escape artist Erik Weisz, known to the world as Harry Houdini, is an easily accessible biography. The anecdotes of Houdini as a young boy, including his first magic trick ever, through his relatively short life of 52 years will engage beginning readers. It is inevitable that a short biography must leave out many details, but MacLeod provides enough of an overview (plus a warning at the end for children not to try Houdini's tricks themselves) to encourage them to learn more about the master performer. Mantha's full-color illustrations are pleasant complements to the text.—
