5.0 out of 5 stars Championship Quidditch
I got this for my 13th Birthday and this is way better than the levitating challenge and the Whomping Willow combined. Your objective is to score more goals than the oposing player. Then after the anouncer says the number of points each side has, The golden snitch pops out of the high tower. This is the number one toy on my list!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars not so good toy
This Harry Potter games is very fast paced and that is the fun part!! But the snitch is hard to get in the air and it comes out on the Slytherin side so the slytheins have a total advantage then the other team. My friends come over and even if they don't like Harry Potter they still play it for the fast paced part of the game and trying to get the snitch. You will get...

2.0 out of 5 stars Very loud, and little to no skill involved., December 13, 2008

I picked this game up a few years ago when it came out, despite the fact that I was in my teens and there was a picture on the back of two small boys playing it. However, being the Harry Potter fan that I am, and the price that they were asking for it, I bought it anyway. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that I had just wasted my money on this game.

I suppose the game itself could be fun enough, but the sound effects that go with it are extremely annoying. It's very loud, and it updates you on your score far more often than necessary. In my opinion, it's just very annoying, and it'd be hard to play it without the sound effects because that's how you determine your score.

I also thought that the concept of catching the snitch to win was a bit silly. In theory, it sounds more fair, I suppose, but the thing is, you have to press a button on the side of the board to signify that you were the one who caught it. I could maybe see younger kids playing this game, and cheating by pressing the button when they really didn't catch it.

The other major drawback to this game is the "board" and how large it is. Once you put it all together, it's too tall to fit back into the box, which means that unless you want it out and displayed or have a cupboard or shelf big enough to put it away fully assembled, you'll have to take it apart each time you want to put it away and re-assemble it each time you take it back out. The balls that it comes with are also fairly easy to get lost; after bringing it out at a party the first year I got it, I only ended up having five of the eight balls it came with when I went to put it away at the end of the night; the other three had disappeared.

As for the gameplay, there's also no strategy involved at all. You just keep hitting your Quaffles into the center, and hope that you catch the Snitch at the end. I was kind of hoping to at least be able to aim a little better and have a better chance at hitting the hoops in the center that you're actually aiming for, but the majority of it is all left up to chance. If you're a gamer, it's kind of similar to button mashing in that it's all just random and there's really no skill involved, and you're just left to pushing your button down as hard and fast as possible to try to get points.

The one thing that I will say for this game is that it is extremely durable. The whole board is made of a very thick, strong plastic, and it doesn't easily come apart (which is good for gameplay, but could present a problem when trying to disassemble it), and I could see this standing up to years of use by younger kids. The characters also look pretty cool and realistic for just a standard board game, so that was a nice added bonus as well.

Overall, I'd say go for one of the other Harry Potter games instead of this one if you don't want to be taking it apart all the time, you think you'll mind the noise, or you want something a little more skill- or strategy-oriented.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality for the money, September 1, 2009

I was very disappointed in this product. It is made of very cheap plastic parts. I spent $60.00 on this for my son's birthday and he lost interest in it after about 10 minutes. Not to mention that he was afraid of breaking it because it is so cheaply made. There is also a battery opperated spokesperson who keeps track of the score. Sounded intriguing to a little boy, until he heard it. You can barely understand the muffled voice. Complete disappointment and would not recommend it to anyone who is possibly interested. I would possibly pay $12.00 for this sort of toy/game, NOT $60.00. I have since returned the toy and have requested a refund.
