Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I loathed Part 1 with a passion. The controls were clunky and largely unresponsive, the graphics, save for a few character models, were muddy and poorly textured, and the gameplay was rudimentary at best with ridiculous and repetitious side missions that did nothing more than to give the player the illusion it was more varied than it really was. Well a year has passed since that last disaster and I have to say that EA has largely corrected the nagging issues I had with the first game.

One major gripe I had with Part 1 was the unresponsiveness of the controls when trying to take cover and how I would sometimes get hit with spells regardless if I was behind cover. The controls in Part 2 overall feel tighter. If you see an object you want to duck behind, you're most likely going to be able to without issue. The spell cast system has also been updated. Gone is the cumbersome weapon wheel. Not only did it distract from the action, it was overall pointless given that Stupefy was the only practical spell to use against enemies. Now you can switch in between spells with the click of a button which really opens up combat since it allows you to easily cast one-two combos at your foes. The game also encourages you to try different spells given the situation. For instance, Stupefy is good for short ranged enemies while horrible for enemies that are across the map. Expelliarmus helps to break an enemy's Protego shield so you can then finish him or her off with an Expulso spell which shoots rapid fire orbs. The aiming reticule has also been polished. In Part 1, it tended not to stick on enemies in crucial moments. In Part 2, not only does it stick, it forces you not to spam the trigger button as doing so leads to erratic shooting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive.... August 6, 2011

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This game is good overall, but whether is comes to the graphics and the repetitive gameplay, the game gets 3 stars. The graphics are as if someone rubbed mud textured paint on the faces of the characters. Though, the game closely resembles the movie. The game is a mix of Call of Duty and The Harry Potter Franchise. Every turn there is spells coming your way, it got quite annoying. You should look forward to Ginny's level, very Fun. Possibly the best part in this game.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lot of action but a little short August 18, 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I was not a fan of the Deathly Hallows Part 1 game and its awkward "spell wheel" and side missions, that maybe were somewhat true to the original story made it seem like it was just there to aggravate the player. But this game makes up for it with quick and easy spell selection which is good considering every time you turn around there are dark wizards shooting junk at you. The play is kind of the same; get shot at, find cover, shoot back, repeat, but if you are a fan of the movie and story you'll have a good time playing through it. The game doesn't take long to finish so that's a little bit of a gripe but a small one for me. Neville's and Ginny's levels were fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a movie game, but one of the better ones. October 12, 2011

Here's the deal--Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is a movie game. That means you should be skeptical. I was, but fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. At its core, this is a first-person shooter dressed up like Harry Potter (or vice versa), with a pinch of Gears of War thrown in. Here's the rundown of the game's highs and lows.

Pros:
-Great graphics; the dark and brooding atmosphere of the latter HP movies is captured quite well here. Textures are usually crisp and clear, lighting is fluid and ambient, and character models and movements seem natural and realistic.
-Combat/spell-casting is fun. You're given a pretty wide variety of spells, and while you can stick with just one throughout the game, I thought it was genuinely (and surprisingly) fun to mix and match them during combat. You have the Harry Potter-equivalents of machine gun, sniper rifle, grenade launcher, bubble shield, etc.
-The HUD (heads-up display) is...well...nonexistent. There's nothing on the screen except the gameplay--no life bar, points, etc. I thought this was great, making the game more immersive, and it allowed more room to enjoy the view.
-WIDE variety of characters. You get to play as pretty much every significant character from the film, though some segments are very short, and the controls/spells are identical among everyone.

Cons:
-Length. It's not the longest game (about 12 levels, with each level taking less than 30 minutes), but you do have challenge modes for some replayability, though these are just repeats of the levels from story mode. You're also given the option of a new "expert" difficulty once you've completed the game. I played through on the hardest pre-expert difficulty, and it was a good challenge.

Great Christmas present for my son. It is a great upgrade from the Lego Harry Potter games he was used to playing on the wii. Kept him entertained even after he beat the game. He is playing it through again for all the extras.

The Deathly Hallows Part 1 game was dreadful: it was way too complicated for what it was. This one is so much better, not nearly as difficult. Love HP, love the games.
