This would have been a wonderful toy. After 2 attempts of reordering , I had to go out and buy a clasp for the robe. My son and I were very disappointed in this toy.

I bought this costume for my son for his second birthday party, which had a Harry Potter theme. (See my "How To" guide for organising an unforgettable Harry Potter party in the "So you'd like to ..." section)

The one I got came with a fancy clasp to hold the front of the cape together. It was a little big, so I had to hem it and roll up the sleeves. Even after hard wear and much abuse at the party it washed well, and looks like new. He will probably still have this costume when Books 6 and 7 come out.

The wand is realistic, but with young children you have to watch out for them hitting other children with it, as it's pretty solid.

The glasses are also very authentic looking, and fits all faces (mine included). Again you have to be careful with younger children as it tends to slide off little noses, and the glass might break. I haven't had any problems with it mind you, but it could happen. The lenses get dirty quickly also.

The transfers are a very nice touch, and they go on easily with a little water. Even squirmy kids can be decorated without too much fuss. They last a couple of days if you don't scrub them too hard in the bath. I removed my son's own, because it was so realistic that people kept coming up to me asking if he had fallen and hurt his forehead. (Muggles no doubt!)

A great buy for your little Harry Potter

This was a great find for my 6 yr old son. He loves Harry Potter and was thrilled with the robe, wand, glasses and stickers. The robe was a nice soft material, not that itchy stuff that costumes are usually made of. The glasses were made with real glass and metal, not cheap plastic. The wand is plastic, but still pretty durable. My son wore the scar tattoo and was thrilled he was "just like Harry Potter".

The costume came in a nice box, and for $13.88 was a great deal! My kids are still playing with it even after Halloween.

Wow, is the packaging fancy on this costume. But looks are very deceiving! I gave this 5 stars for fun because, my son will be able to enjoy the wand and glasses for more than a day. This toy/costume has NO educational value, (I wish there were a "0" star rating.) I gave this only 2 stars for durability because this robe/cape is cheaply made, thin and runs very small. It says will fit 12/14, but will probably only fit a 10/12 at best. It says machine washable, but I WILL NOT wash it for fear of shrinkage. The material WILL run very quickly, and I know the first time he brushes up against a branch or bush on Halloween, it will be full of snags....

I got this item for Halloween of 2001. I actually bought the robe and the wand & Glasses separate, but it's the same thing.

Pros:

Very fun- if you get it for Halloween, you'll keep wearing it. (I'm wearing the robe right now!!) If you buy it to just play with, it won't disappoint you.

Cons:

I agree that the robe needs a wand pocket. That's really the only fault in the robe.

The wand is okay, but I can't wait until my own wood one comes in the mail! (I lost mine!)

Overall, very good, good for anyone who likes Harry Potter, I strongly reccomend it.

It's a great toy for the imaginatoin. My sister loves it a whole lot. The only problem is that it doesn't have a pocket in the robe. The wand is alittle weird, but it is a whole lot better than the picture shows, a whole lot better. The glasses I think look pretty dorky, I'm 11, but my sister still likes it. Don't listen to the other people about the tattoos, there is about 6 scar tattoos and a tattoo for each all the teams. (Gryfindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.) And some smaller ones of those same things. It overall is a great toy.

I love this costume! I run around the house yelling spells from the books as I point my wand at couches, tables, desks, books, etc. I even cover the badge sometimes and put it over my head and pretend to be He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. This is the best costume I have!

My 5 year old is a big Harry Potter fan. I bought the Dress Up Box in August and four month later it is still one of his favorite toys. It sparks the imagination and encourages independent play. Recently, after intensive use and "abuse" the wand cracked and the glasses broke. It was definitely a great investment. Much cheaper than a baby sitter, it brought many hours of worriless peace (not quiet) in our house.

I'm a 22 years old Harry Potter fan, and for this Halloween I bought this set, a messy black haired wig, and my friend Evelyn made me a Griffindor scarf to wear with my custome. Everyone loved the costume!!!!! I would love to be ten years younger so that I could play around with my friends, but instead I have to work!

The only problem is that it only comes in kids sizes (duh!) and is too short for us older fans.

I purchased this set for my son to use for Halloween and we are pretty happy with it, except for a few minor things. The material used in the cape could be a little more durable, the tattoos included do not include a "lightning scar", which of course would complete the costume much better than the hogwarts house crests that were included instead. Overall I think it will be fun.
