It's about time. A fun Harry Potter Game. What you have heard is true. This is an action Harry Potter game. I love it. It will keep the attention of anyone who has not been a fan in the past. I agree with the second reviewer - if you liked the other Harry Potter games, this latest one is sure to disappoint. However, unlike another reviewer, I won't be so callous as to completely spoil a book's surprise ending.

It's about time. A fun Harry Potter Game. What you have heard is true. This is an action Harry Potter game. I love it. It will keep the attention of anyone who has not been a fan in the past. This is because this is an action game where as the other potter games have been a hunt for and talk to collect-a-thon. Is there talking this time? Yes, but only while you are fihghting. In fact, you do not have to read anything if you do not want to. Excellent audio samples and voice acting. The game is fast, fun and creative. You will casts numerous spells. A big complaint has been that you don't pick your spells, you just always press the same button and perform whatever spell fits the situation. BUt I like it. It would slow down the action if you had to go through some menu, and it would limit the spells if they were limited to the number of buttons.
Bottom line: Great action game. If you remotely like the series, you will finaly love the game.

I agree with the second reviewer - if you liked the other Harry Potter games, this latest one is sure to disappoint. However, unlike another reviewer, I won't be so callous as to completely spoil a book's surprise ending.

One of the more disappointing features of this new game is the inability to see more than a few feet in front of you. That is, whereas in the other game you had control of the camera with the joystick you didn't use to run (by the way, Harry cannot duck or jump in this game either); in other games you used the joystick to look up, down and all around the town! When Harry ran through the game, you saw where he was going because the view was from behind. Here, the view is aerial and you have no idea what's ahead.

The card system is indeed confusing and the booklet doesn't explain much. I miss roaming around the entire school, entering into the classrooms, running through Diagon Alley and looking for secret items. You can't go roaming anymore, you must follow an prearranged order. The Bertie Botts Beans you uncover for points now fly away from you, and you must chase them down if you want points. If I had the chance to offer an opinion to the game designers, I would say "do over".

I agree with the other reviewers...why no roaming? I liked being able to start and end the day instead of just go thru different levels. Roaming around was one of the best parts of the game, sneaking past the prefects and flying aimlessly around on your broom. Overall a disappointment. The game is fun, but not like the others at all. Why the sudden switch?

I do not have this game yet, but I played this game at my friend's house and we had a heck of a time! This game is multi player and the graphics and enviroments have improved! But on different websites people said the camera was bad. But, when I played this game at my friend's house the camera was sort of all right. But there is no roaming around, I did not mind. All I cared about was how fun the game was.

4.0 out of 5 stars From a kids point of view, July 26, 2006

This review is from: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Video Game)
It was okay, i got this game for christmas after begging for it for like a month. then i got home (i was on vaction) and I started playing it right away. it was more advanced than the 2nd, and thats good, but I wasnt fond of the layout. Like you got there and there was the cup and you chose a challenge. I liked the 2nd because they didnt have this. In the second you wandered around hogwarts, did some cool challanges, class challenges, spell challenges, etc, and like once you were done you collected beans, fly, buy stuff, etc, and save the game whenever you feel like whereever. the 4th you cant save the game whenever and where ever, you cant just wonder around, you almost never go into hogwarts, you dont buy stuff, you collect beans to get cards in which help your stanima, etc. i mean the games fun, like the dragon rocks, but i like the 1st two better

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun, Challenging, Well-Integrated & Goal-Oriented Game, April 17, 2006
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Video Game)
I have played each of the video games based upon the first four Harry Potter films & books. By far, the most challenging and best integrated of these games is "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". The previous game of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" introduced the ability for a player to play as any of the three main characters from Harry Potter: either as Harry, Ron or Hermione; which a player could actively switch between during game play (often, this was required within specific levels). This latest Harry Potter game also allows a player to play as one of the three main characters, but unlike the previous game, a player cannot actively switch between characters until the completion of a particular task.

As with previous Harry Potter games, spells must be obtained in order to get through certain levels or an important item, such as a Triwizard shield, may need to be collected. In fact, much of game play involves the collection of Triwizard shields that are hidden within most of the game's levels in order to unlock access to higher levels. Typically, there are multiple Triwizard shields on each level, which means that a player must revisit levels multiple times in order to collect a sufficient number of them. Also hidden within these levels are special items, such as vanishing cards, dragon statues, shovels or some other item that a player should either collect or reveal as sub-quests. Except for vanishing cards (for which there is only one per level), a player must identity all of a particular items on a particular level in order to gain a card that represents those items. And here's an important note on collecting/purchasing cards: unlike previous Harry Potter games where card collecting was merely a secondary activity that had no real impact on the players or game outcome itself, cards won or purchased throughout this game can load a player's character (that he/she has chosen before entering a level) with increased stamina, skill or magical strength from three selected cards. In fact, it is up to the player to load all three characters with a particular set of cards for the skills that the player wants each character to have because even though a player cannot switch between characters during game play, which ever character the player chooses is usually accompanied by the other two. One very interesting aspect of this game is that not all items on a particular level may be accessible until the player obtains something that is only attainable at a higher level that makes it possible to collect the needed item on the lower level. Most collectors' cards are only made available for purchase upon how well the player demonstrates certain abilities or achieves certain goals.

During game play, the player will encounter a number of nasty creatures, such as dugbogs, salamanders and vampyr mosps, which can be very annoying. Available jinx spells include (but are not limited to) orbis, inflatus and avifors. Charm spells include herbivicus, carpe retractum and accio to name a few. As stated, not all of these spells are available until obtained and sometimes require obtaining its spell book. Game levels include the Quidditch World Cup at the beginning, then proceed at Hogwarts with Defense Against the Dark Arts, the Hogwarts Exterior, Moody's Challenges, the Forbidden Forrest, the Prefects Bathroom, Herbology, the three Triwizard Challenges and Voldemort.

Overall, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" video game is very fun and I rate it with 5 out of 5 stars. It is by far the best Harry Potter video game to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slightly addictive, March 24, 2006
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Video Game)
The graphics are much better in this game. That I think everyone appreciated. Also, the loading screens are much more pleasant to look at. A swirling pool of blue lights. It's really quite pretty.
The game is not really that difficult, although some of the tasks are a little daunting. I have finished the game without completing some of the various tasks in it. I have completed none of moody's challenges-I felt no need. And I found the dragon in a cage in the forbiddin forest, and did not feel like getting to the shield it guarded.
You can pick and choose your battles, skip what you do not wish to take on, and go back and get things you probably should have.
Granted, this won't be a game I will be playing much in a month, but it was definately worth the money I spent on it. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfull game, December 3, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Video Game)
Well, i rented this game a few days ago, to test it before buying it. This game WILL only last 3 days if you sit down and do it all in one sitting. But, for the people who just like to play here and there and have the smarts for this game, mostly strategy if i must say so. The only thing that i dont like about this game is 1: the camera angles are terrible 2: It doesnt follow the story line, Other than that i loved it. I just got past the prefects bath level. I would of liked more characters but, im fine with the way it works.

This is not my favorite of the Harry Potter games. It's so action oriented that it actually is very hard. It's great for people who like all action games, but I really feel it loses much of the story by being all action. And I miss tending classes. Part of the fun of the previous games was being able to go to school at Hogwarts and learning the magic. At least it was for me. I finished it, but I won't play it again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ripp Off - complete and utter ripp off!!!!, November 17, 2005
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Video Game)
Do not take any notice of the people who say this game is good, as it is a total ripp off and i can honsetly say the game has completely changed to the last 3 games with no exploration around hogwarts, it feels like you are skimming the pages of the book and not that feeling off being in the game, it has taken me one day to complete this game and the ending took 3 minutes to conquer so i have sold my game as it is not worth having in my collection, i feel EA rushed this game and i cannot believe they changed it as this is not at all like the 3 previous games, total ripp off EA!!!! i just hope my voting on EA.COM has made a difference and gets EA to remake the goblet of fire!!!!!!!! a very dissapointed customer.

P.S Also if anyone wants a true review of this game try gamespot.com or .co.uk and read the reviews you'll understand what i mean if you have not bought this game already.
