A 2008 Wall Calendar Featuring 12 Posters of the Cast & Characters from the Fifth Harry Potter Film,
By
This review is from: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: 2008 Wall Calendar (Calendar)
Having become a tradition for me to have a Harry Potter wall calendar for each year, the 2008 version of the calendar features the cast & characters from the 2007 feature-length film "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix". Measuring a standard 12 inches wide and 24 inches long (when hung), the the calendar includes all major U.S. holidays, Christian holidays, Jewish holidays and civil Canadian holidays. The posters featured for each month of the calendar including the following:
* Jan.: "Dumbledore's Army", featuring the six principal members: Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione (Emma Watson), Ron (Rupert Grint), Neville (Matthew Lewis), Luna (Evanna Lynch) and Ginny (Bonnie Wright). * Feb.: "The Forbidden Forest", featuring Harry, Ron and Hermione with centaurs in the background. * Mar.: "Malfoy", featuring Lucius Malfoy (Jason Isaacs), Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), and his band of thugs that helped Delores Umbridge at Hogwarts. * Apr.: "Order of the Phoenix", featuring Sirius Black (Gary Oldman), Mad-eye Moody (Brendan Gleeson), Tongs (Natalia Tena) and Kingsley Shacklebolt (George Harris). * May.: "Dumbledore's Army [redux]", featuring Harry, Ron and Hermione with the rest of the army in the background at the Hogsmeade pub. * Jun.: "Voldemort and the Death Eaters", featuring Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) and the masked death eaters in the background. * Jul.: "The Weasleys", featuring Ron, Ginny, Fred (James Phelps) and George (Oliver Phelps). * Aug.: "Sirius Black", featuring Sirius Black with Harry in the background. * Sep.: "Prophecy", featuring a prophecy sphere in the middle with Harry and an angry Voldemort in the background. * Oct.: "Ministry of Magic", featuring Delores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) and Cornelius Fudge (Robert Hardy). * Nov.: "The Trial Chamber", featuring Albus Dumbledore (Michael Gambon), Harry and Cornelius Fudge. * Dec.: "Thestrals", featuring thestrals & Harry. Overall, I rate the "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: 2008 Wall Calendar" with 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to any Harry Potter aficionado.

This was purchased as a gift for Christmas. The recipient was thrilled. He is a huge Harry Potter fan of both the movies and the books. He enjoys having scenes from the movie hanging on his wall. Next year I will most likely purchase the next calendar in the series.

To say "my daughter loves the Harry Potter books and movies " is to mischaracterize her engagement in the whole HP culture. So a wall calendar is always part of the holiday gift canon, to steal one of the HP terms,(and probably misuse it). Anyway, this calendar is great because the pics are not doctored more than Hollywood deems it necessary, to keep the pimples and other blemishes from distracting fans. But it's now half way through January, 2008. Buy it on sale, like I did.

The presented calender is a good print work of a solid quality. However, this is just a poster (photo of actors) without any mistery inside. The images do not reflect the color of the book and the picture. The is no motion and feeling which may upset the fan of Joan Rolling story.

The pictures from the movie are really nice and it will make my 2008 more enjoyable regardless if Harry dies or not in the Deathly Hallows. Seriously, I am going to be angry if Harry dies, but the calendar is awesome.

I give this four stars for two reasons: first, it's always more fun to intersperse pictures from the earlier films so you can see how the stars have changed over the course of the films; and second, all the calendar pages are quite dark. I realize the film itself was dark, but I'm old-fashioned about calendars: I think spring and summer pics should be bright, and October should be Halloweenie, etc. True the seasons are reversed in the Southern Hemisphere, so this point can be argued. Still a nice calendar!
