Great game, although not perfect, May 22, 2011
This review is from: Harry Potter and the Philosopher"s Stone (DVD-ROM)
For an adaptation of the first part of a great series of novels and movies, I have to say that there was some good quality into this game. Sure if you play it today, some of the visuals will be outdated, especially when the characters don't use their mouths when they talk, but move their heads around as to follow the characters' dialogs. However, I felt the makers of this game managed to recreate the atmosphere of J K Rowling's universe. Especially with its gorgeous soundtrack, which I felt could have been even used in the movie series as it was eerie, mysterious, and gave a lot of depth and emotions to the characters.
Those that expect the game to follow the Philosopher's Stone story in its entirety will be disappointed because it isn't the case with this game. It simply starts around Harry's first day at Hogwarts and not at Privet Drive, which I felt was disappointing because they could have used that place, along with the zoo, the pier on the rock, and Diagon Alley as a way to make a great tutorial combined with great storytelling. That's why I still think that this game could have been more longer.
As for the gameplay itself, it is not a sandbox style, but more of an adventure game consisting of traditional levels in which you explore areas of Hogwarts that you never revisit again. So this is that you must really explore the levels well if you want to find the secret rooms hiding some wizard cards, officially written by J K Rowling, that enrich the history of her wizard world.
The only 2 mini-games that you can play outside of the main storyline are the flying lessons and of course the Quidditch Cup. Those two levels will be a treat for those that wish to make Harry fly on a broom or play seeker in a traditional Quidditch post. Though it isn't as exciting as the Quidditch World cup video game that EA released in 2003, which had better gameplay and better visuals.
As such, I think this game is a good way to explore the Harry Potter universe surrounding the events of the Harry Potter saga that occurred around 1991-1992 (according to the timeline), though I believe that certain parts could have been more detailed.

This is a terrible game, it has too many technical difficulties. My daughter worked really hard on a particularly hard part and did the save part, and it didn't save it.It also has strange controls.
