This game was a good idea, and my family enjoyed it. However, there are a few problems with it; the instructions are lacking, and we had to make up a few rules to account for those that are missing. Also, the chess game is an "abbrieviated" version, but it is still too long to play as part of the 6 and 3/4. We usually leave it out entirely when we play.In general, the game is well done, and I enjoyed it. The sixth game is the most fun, although it was a bit confusing at first, and the third game is also good. The game is great for Harry Potter fans, but if you are looking for a strategy game, this is not the one ... all in all, a good game.

We actually enjoy playing this game, although the instructions were incomplete and we had to spend some time figuring out the rules of play ourselves. One nice thing about this game is that the separate games don't all have to be played at once. You can take just one of the 6 game boards and play that, or you can hook them all up and play the through the whole thing. Individually, some of the games are too simple, with not enough strategy or "game" involved to be lots of fun. Even still, it's fun enough for my kids (ages 6, 8 and 9) to find it endlessly amusing. The pieces are as durable as thich cardboard can be expected to be, although there are a lot of them to punch out before starting the game. (That was actually very time-consuming, and somewhat irritating.) The actual boards themselves are made out of a thin metal-type of material, which makes them bendable without putting creases in them. I like this material far better than cardboard. My kids love this game, and I like it, too. I would hope that in the future manufacture of this one, that the instructions are more completely written up. I am sure there are some people who give up completely and don't bother with it, because of the poorly written instructions. All in all, I think this is pretty fun, although I think the price is a bit high.

The "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone" Game is a game that consists of 6 3/4 "mini-games" all portraying the challenges Harry, Ron and Hermione faced in the book to retrieve the Sorcerers Stone. 2-4 people can play and it's basically a race to get to the Sorcerer's Stone. It's a good idea, but the game play is terrible. The directions are written poorly and if the mini-game isn't boring, it's confusing. One mini-game is just spinning a spinner and getting across the board. If the spinner lands on the troll, you have to go back to start. I found that very boring. Another mini-game is so confusing, I don't know how to explain it. My brother and I have to read and re-read the directions each time to try to play the game, which takes away all the fun. There are also many pieces to the game and it takes awhile to set up all 6 3/4 games, which, in my opinion isn't worth the trouble. So all in all, I don't recommend this game because it's more confusing, boring and time-consuming than it is fun. I hope you found this review helpful!

Warning. This review is only for Muggles. What we have here is a board game in the vein of clue. Who did it and how. You get to play your typical clue style game only with the Harry Potter name behind the game. Actually the game is rather enjoyable and its good to play with the little ones. Not too many games out there these days that can bring the family back to the kitchen table instead of in front of the TV. I would recommend this game to all who would enjoy a fun night with the family, and who want to get down to the mystery in Hogwarts. If you don't know anything about Harry Potter It will help you understand the insides and out of Hogwarts School Of Magic. To all of you Muggles out there who already know about Harry Potter, Help unravel the mysteries held within.

The Harry Potter name and books are magical. The game should be too, but it's not. The game consists of challenges (or games within the game), each with it's own set of poorly written instructions. For most of these mini-games, we needed to make up numerous rules along the way, because the instructions are simply insufficient. As a result, players will spend more time reading and interpreting the rather lengthly instruction manual, than they ever will spend playing the game. The six challenges range from fairly standard memory or matching games to modified chess. My guess is that most people will begin wondering early on "when will this game ever end" and once it ends exile it to the game closet to gather dust. My bottom line is - keep reading the books but don't buy the game.

... Hi! My older sister and I got this game for my little sister for Christmas. We were so excited to play it with my mom and little sister! Then, we started the game and found out how confusing and incomplete the directions are! I was beginning to think we should have gotten a different Harry Potter game! My 'lil' sis seemed very dissappointed and so were we! We haven't played the game since and we are Harry Potter fanatics! I think maybe it will be more fun if we play this game when there are better instructions! I read them again and it made more sense to me, but my family still won't play it with me!

My son (age 5) and I love this game. Kids need an adult or older teen to help them with the instructions until the game has been played a few times. We referred back to the instructions many times at first, as the game is complex. But once you remember all the nuances, it's lots of fun!! The other kids who have reviewed on this site should have their parents help them before giving up on this game. It's great!

There are 6 and 3/4 games in this collection, and we use the term 'game' loosely. Games are often thought of as 'fun', and this is not a term used in the description of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: The Game. The first game was quite like Candy Land, the second more like a matching puzzle. The third game was the best of the 6.75, but it needed much improvement still. The fourth game was chess. Not a variant of the game, just CHESS. The last three pages of the 21 page instruction book are devoted to teaching the 8-year-old target audience the finer points of chess. The 5th game was simpler than Candy Land, unlike the first, which was at the advanced intellectual level of that famed game. The 6th game was a complicated mesh of cards that even the two adults playing could figure out. We did not end up playing the 6th game. The 6 and 3/4th game was 10 cards, face down. Each player took turns at turning them over, in hopes of finding the card with the sorcerer's stone on it. That was it. You won when you found it. The players who won the first three games each won a sorcerer's stone in it's full cardboard 1-inch long glory. If you happened to win any of the last three and 3/4 games, you got nothing. Not that it mattered anyway, because once you have a stone, the game is over, and what can you do with a cardboard stone? There are over 200 pieces to lose and/or swallow. ....

Yes, we played several times with the detailed instructions open, to gain all the play opportunities offered. The more you play, the more you remember to use the spell cards and owls and brooms, and the more fun the game becomes. It definately helps to see the movie-read the book to understand the feature of each game room and point of the game. The Devil's Snare is the pits to get stuck in or sent back to!

I read the other reviews and I'm surprised at some of the commens. Have some patience, people! Just sit down a bit and read the instructions without being in a rush and you'll be fine. Not too long, about 30 minutes or so. This game really sticks to the plotline of the first Harry Potter story, which we all know is very detailed and exciting. In order to play this game the right way and enjoy the attention to detail that the makers put into it, you need to read the rules through when you are not in a rush. Once we did that, my granddhildren got a real kick out of going through all of the challenges, just like Harry did in the movie! It's nice to see a game that actually had a lot of thought into it, not like the Mattel version, which is really just "Clue" with Harry Potter graphics slapped on it!Real wizard fans will appreciate this game! |
