I think this toy is great for big Harry Potter lovers and others alike. I could not stop playing. But it what not my image of Quidditch was. Maybe a second edition would be more helpful to me. I don't know about everyone but all of the Harry Potter lovers should buy this! Definately!!!

Sure, the rules are tough to figure out. Forewarned by other reviewers here at Amazon.com, I sat down by myself to read through them and play a game or two on my own before I introduced this game to my son (6 and a half, which I knew was too young, but he's a big fan of Quidditch!).Anyway, I don't know what the big deal was. One reviewer here said she had four adults with six degrees between them and she couldn't figure out the rules. I'm only one adult, with one degree, and I'm not trying to brag, but it was just a matter of reading them over and flipping through the cards a few times to get used to what was what. There are actually THREE decks included in this game, Gryffindor, Slytherin and a Pitch deck which has all the balls that come into play. Figuring out the game did take a little more time than it would have taken for a less elaborate deck. I can understand that; it's not an easy matter, translating a magical field sport into a tabletop game for Muggles! I played a couple of rounds by myself to make sure I understood it, and then I taught the game to another adult. That's when the fun started happening. He isn't a Harry Potter fan, and he was dreading having to learn all the new words and spells, but it turned out that wasn't a problem. Though it's true that you have to make up a few rules as you go along, we both (very quickly) managed to have an enormously good time. As a card game, Quidditch certainly holds its own once you've mastered the rules. We ended up going for "best 2 of 3" and "best 3 of 5" just so we could keep playing! I haven't introduced this game to my son yet; I think it's a little complicated for him, and I've ordered the Harry Potter Uno set for him instead. But I think partly I'm just being selfish... this is such a fun game, I can't help thinking that it's wasted on our kids! FYI: I contacted Mattel and they do indeed have another set of rules available now. They haven't arrived in the mail yet, but I'm still looking forward to having a couple of my questions cleared up. If you purchase the game, just give them a call at their 800-number and they'll ship you off the new rules.

Excellent game for older and younger players. So far, the people I've played it with have all loved it, although it's confusing to learn. Those who have played in my house were: 12 yr old female, 32 yr old female, 34 yr old male, and 52 yr old male. We all had a learning curve, but once that was overcome, had a huge blast! It would be very helpful if an adult could supervise or play the first few games to assist with the numerous rules. There are a lot of different "spell" cards that take a bit to understand when to play them and how they affect the hand being played.

i couldn't help myself when i saw this product. The artwork on the cards are excellent and the gameplay is good, well, when you learn to play it. It's confusing at first play. I had to read the directions over and over. but eventually i got used to it and it became very fun. I recommend the game but i'd rather just admire the cards themselves.

It was hard to understand but it is a great game! After a while of playing it I could understand how it works. I like the curse and jinx cards.

I bought this game for my wife as a stocking stuffer last Christmas, and we couldn't wait to play it. The cards are very nice to look at, and they are of pretty good quality (for a deck of cards, of course). The packaging could be better -- the odd-shaped box is impossible to stack, making it a little hard to store easily. We were a little disappointed: the instructions to this game are VERY confusing, and seem kind of incomplete. We played many times, and almost every game we hit a situation which was not covered in the rules. We even hit one point where we had four quaffles on the board, and once that the game couldn't end! It also gets to be a bit repetitive. Basically, whoever gets the snitch wins. But it's still a fun way to pretend you're flying your Nimbus 2000 around Hogwarts. If you're a Harry Potter fan, this is a cute game that is fairly enjoyable, but it's not great. It's not a bad cheap gift for your favorite HP fan, and it only takes a few minutes to play a game. I think it would be a bit too confusing for younger kids to play, but with a little help from someone a little older, they will probably enjoy it.

I'm a 40 year old Ivy League graduate and I thought the directions were hopeless confusing. Once we sat down and played the game, things became a little clearer. Still I never really was sure when you could or should play the special cards, or when you were allowed to replenish your hands. We ended up making up our own rules to make up for the inadequate rules provided. It comes in a terrible box, I'm sure we'll lose the cards all too soon. Still my 8 year old ended up creaming me so he thinks it's a great game.

Starting to play this game is frustrating, since there are some holes in the rules. For instance, the rules don't specify what happens when you run out of cards; they're also a bit unclear on whether you have to keep playing a quaffle until it's done or not, and if so, what happens when you've used up your entire hand. There are other ambiguities, as well.Still, if you can work these details out between yourselves, it's a load of fun, and pretty quick once you get the hang of it.

My mother, little brother and myself were so confused by the directions that we still haven't been able to play. It was my little brother's christmas gift and I was so disappointed when I tried to read the directions. My mother and I just couldn't get it to work. ...
