The first of three in the series, The Book of Harry Potter Trifles, Trivias and Particularities, Volume One is designed for both the series' adult and YA audience. Nine Quests, organized by different aspects of J.K. Rowling's wizarding world will both challenge and delight the vast Harry Potter readership. Quiz material covers all SEVEN of the Harry Potter books, the two books J.K. Rowling wrote for charity (Fantastical Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages) as well as information from her world-building website.Each of the book's quests contain questions divided into three skill levels: Salamander, Phoenix, and Dragon (magical creatures of increasing size that are all associated with the element of fire). In a range of astrological systems around the world, fire is said to govern leadership, enthusiasm and competitiveness, making it a suitable theme for question difficulty and a way to keep the reader immersed in the fantastical. Future volumes will utilize this system with creatures that represent the elements of air (Volume Two) and water (Volume Three). Throughout the quest readers will be engaged by hint caption boxes and intriguing trivia tidbits including little-known historical facts referenced in the Harry Potter canon.An answer key will be provided at the end of each quest, where readers can easily check their answers by question number. The source of the answer will be cited according to book and chapter number, due to the various editions on the market.

I bought this obsessively well-researched book to read on my own, and see if my re-reading of Rowling's works had taught me anything. I picked it up a chapter at a time during the busy holidays for a break, and enjoyed it very much. But where the book is really going to shine is in groups. Have a theme party, or invite your fellow Potter fans over for a round of trivia and snacks! Have a contest! I certainly plan to do so as soon as the winter holidays are out of the way. Even casual fans will be interested, and serious scholars will enjoy an opportunity to show off their knowledge (or have friendly arguments about the fine details).

The book includes three levels of trivia, by difficulty; even the youngest fans can probably manage the easiest questions, and even hard-core followers will be challenged by the highest level. It may also spur you to re-read chapters or entire books of Rowling's works; it draws not only on all 7 books of the series, but on related works like "Fantastic Beasts" and "Quidditch Through The Ages". The answers are of course included, along with references to the source material.
The writing style pays homage to Rowling's tone and world feel, while being highly readable and entertaining.

This book would make a wonderful gift for fans of all ages. I wish I'd found time to read this before Christmas, but there are always birthdays. There's enough material, both in the differently themed chapters and the different difficulty levels, to keep anybody occupied for weeks.

What I love most about this book is the level of minute and obscure detail. As a Harry Potter fan, I thought I had a good working knowledge of the world in which the stories take place. With great chagrin I found myself working my way up through the trivia levels, surprised at how much I didn't know. It's wonderful to feel like I'm rediscovering the Potter-verse, to find myself better acquainted with all the odd nooks and crannies.

This is a wonderful book to have, as it will demand the reader go pick up copies of the stories and read them again with a closer eye. I can see how it would be great fun for groups of friends or at birthday parties. Anyone who ever wanted to play Harry Potter Jeopardy only needs a copy this book to help set up the board.

The book is very charming and well put together. I love the way that the questions are grouped as a series of "challenges" that involve increasingly stronger skill levels, and the "trivia tidbits" are both enlightening and entertaining. Harry Potter fans will have a wonderful time with this book.
