Product Description

The A70 is a powerful bass combo that features a matched 12-Inch aluminum bass speaker in a specially designed cabinet that can be used in a typical flat floor position or in its special "kickback" position for increased high end clarity and sound dispersion. Delivering 70 watts to its 12-Inch aluminum bass driver, this versatile bass combo is perfect for use in small venues or home recording studios. Plus, the CD input and dedicated headphone output make it an ideal practice amp. Also, with professional features like 7-band graphic EQ for finer tone control, a variable limiter, XLR balanced outputs, passive and active inputs and an effects loop, the A70 is as comprehensive as it is versatile.

I bought the Hartke A70 on Sunday night and received it today from Amazon. What a great bass combo amp ! I am replacing a much larger, heavy, and older solid state Fender that was getting too difficult to move. I needed bass combo that I could carry in one hand while I carry my guitar case in the other (my years are weighting me down). I spent a fair amount of time, much to the displeasure of my wife the "duchess of darkness") looking at both used and new smaller bass combos. I looked at Ampeg, Fender,Orange, Gallien-Krueger,Genz Benz, and a few more. In the end I wanted a smaller, lighter, well made, 75-100 watt solid state amp, with a XLR output, and new for less than $400. It seemed that most manufacturers offer a model that would fit my needs. In the end I was impressed by Hartke's offerings and decided that the A70 would fit my needs. I had heard good things about them and they offered models that tilt back with 25,35,70,100,120 watts. To keep the weight down, I chose the A70 which is 38 lbs. I ordered it very late Sunday night. On Monday I was reviewing my order when I noticed that Amazon and other online retailers had just dropped the price on this very model from $329.99 to $299.99 (the next day). At that point I wrote Amazon a chat message about the price change and the individual who was online immediately gave me the new price and then confirmed it with an email. Great! Wednesday at 11:00 am I was unpacking the new amp and played through it for over two hours ( again with the displeasure of the "duchess"). At this point, I am very pleased with my purchase and with Amazon's fast shipping and the ability to sales reps to resolve problems quickly without discussions. I might update this review as time move along. I find that reading product reviews in Amazon can be very helpful when making a purchase.

I've used this amp for 4 months in a small rock combo. I wanted something you could carry in one hand but still sounded OK. Mission accomplished. I was worried that the 12 inch speaker wouldn't have enough bass but that isn't a problem. This is a great sounding amp, perfect for small venues. And you can always mike or go direct into the PA in a big room.

Gripes: The kickback feature is really nice and I use it often but the large rubber bumpers get knocked off easily. One even got ripped in half. Very cheap construction as the bumpers are only held on with small wood screws. I made a couple of polycarbonate ones at a machine shop and haven't had a problems since.
Secondly, I wish this amp had a second channel with a volume control. There are times when you are only practicing and just need to plug in a guitar or something.

But these are minor issues so four stars

The new age of low watt amps is here. The Hartke A70 does just what I want it to. I play it in church and it has more than enough punch to cut through a drummer and 2 electric guitars. Excellent amp for a medium size church. I put the limiter down to about 25% and everything else flat. I love the EQ it really helps to dial in your tone. No regrets. Order direct from Amazon to spare yourself some grief.
