Book Description

For the lucky ones, there is a love so powerful that when it comes along, it changes everything.

As teenagers, just a chance meeting at a county fair, would change Barry and Tessa’s lives forever. Yet with a summer romance that didn’t fully blossom and ended without warning, two hearts were torn apart by time and circumstance.

Tessa pursued her love of dance and found herself a ballerina in the 1962 production of The Nutcracker in New York City. But she still thought of Barry.

Reunited nearly a decade later, only to be ripped apart by war and loss, Tessa wonders if they will ever be together and dreams fulfilled.

5.0 out of 5 stars A touching tribute you won't want to miss October 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I received Hart's Choice as a gift. Carolyn Arnold shows readers once again she is as adept at weaving a romantic tale as she is a gritty, police drama. Hart's Choice is about everlasting love, the forever kind despite distance and the passing of years. For Tess and Barry, the story begins in The Fifties, during a time when things were less hectic before moving into the unrest of The Sixties. Tess is driven to become a dancer and fulfills that goal. While in New York she bumps into Barry, a man she never forgot and realizes is the love of her life. Even though they had put things on hold in the past, this time they act on their attraction to one another. As in all relationships there are struggles along the way and Tess and Barry are no exception. Arnold weaves life's sorrows and setbacks in such a way there isn't a dry eye in the house. You'll love Barry and Tess's story because it tugs at the heartstrings. I know it did mine. As someone who has been touched by the sadness of Alzheimer's, Hart's Choice is a touching tribute you won't want to miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Touching Tale September 9, 2012
By Journey
Format:Kindle Edition
Carolyn Arnold has written a moving testament to the heartbreak of life with Alzheimer's. But don't buy this book just because the proceeds are going to help find a cure. Buy it because you want to read a love story: "She looked over at him ... and it was as if time came to a halt; her heart paused, her insides turning into a whirling mess. He had a way of looking inside her, as if he could read her very thoughts." Enjoy the love story, but buy this book because the last few pages grab you by the throat and demand you look reality in the face without blinking. That's what you will remember.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest and heartfelt... September 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I received this novella as a gift, and was thoroughly impressed yet again by Carolyn Arnold. Hart's Choice is a heartfelt, personal, and authentic novella about one simple thing: love. It lends credence to the time honored saying that "love lasts forever" as the story follows one couple's journey through distance and time, sorrow and joy. It is a tale that is woven beautifully, filled with genuine truths and experiences that anyone can relate to. Arnold initially sets this lovely story amidst the optimistic, serene 1950's, only to bring us into the turbulent, war-ridden 1960's as the characters struggle with life's battles and heartaches. It is a story that is touching in its honesty, heartbreaking in its reality, and empowering in its message. Arnold truly knows how to embody pure emotion, and I doubt there will be very many dry eyes after reading this beautiful novella.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Love's Sweet Memories" April 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Author Carolyn Arnold has written several stories comprising of several different genres. This is a novella she has written that will touch your soul. The story opens with Tess and Barry Hart laying in bed together. Tess wakes early, and caressing Barry's arm as he is a sound sleeper. her warm thoughts of him go back to when they first met during one summer in the 50's at a carnival. Tess is 16 years old, Barry is 18, and they are drawn to each other immediately. You might say she 'fell' for him right away as she made a swift run to the porta-potty, tripping and falling hard to the ground. Barry was the person who helped her to her feet; and she was soon flying with thoughts of love for him. When summer came to an end, Tess was late for his departure when his parents picked him up from his cousin's home. She was too late, he had gone. Barry was angry, and broken-hearted. Tess was saddened with her loss of Barry, but she dreamed of a fulfilling career as a dancer. It was nine years before they met up again. She had worked hard and was a very accomplished dancer for the New York City Ballet. One day near Christmas, she is having coffee with a friend in a cafe when Barry strolls into the shop. He's on leave from the Navy for a couple more weeks. They both rekindle their love for each other, getting married just before he must return to his ship. Perhaps it's my age, perhaps it's because I've been married for 43 years, but I knew pain and sorrow would appear in this story. This may be fiction, but I recognize it has reality for most long-married couples who are aged. The bright side of this story is having the best, loving memories of one's life to bring back such thoughts on a daily basis. It's our memories that stay with us forever. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written. October 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A beautiful story of life, love and all the pain and joy that comes with it. True love really does exist and for Tessa and Barry, there never was a doubt. Elegantly written and told with a voice that really brings their story close to home, leaving you in a warm place, full of wonder and even a little surprise. The ending will tear at your heart strings. I loved this story and would recommend it to all who enjoy a good romance.
