Water is fun, but not necessary.,

I won't say that the cap isn't difficult to get in and out, but don't let that deter you. Personally, I LIKE that it's so difficult to remove--who would want to risk their doggie swallowing it?
My pug is an avid and PICKY chewer. He does not like the hard/firm (that is, more durable) chews at all. And he goes through stuffed animals too quickly. To date, this is the best toy I've found to keep his interest. It's soft enough that it "gives" when he chews it, but he is not capable of breaking off pieces. As such, it's the only toy he's allowed to have unsupervised.

The only toy my dog will chew on,

My dog loves this bone. I have tried every toy under the sun and this is the only one that he likes. The other bones were either too hard and he didn't want anything to do with them because he knew he couldn't break it appart. Other bones were too easy for him to break appart. This one lasts for several months without me having to replace it. I think he really likes it because he likes to try and get the knob out of it (which he has never been able to do). I don't fill mine with water, he just chews on it in the house. I wish I didn't have to buy this online but I can't find it in any of the pet stores anymore. I hope they don't ever stop making this toy since it's the only toy my dog likes.

It took a grown man, me, about 15 minutes working with pliers to open this thing. Then when I filled it with water I realized it was now impossible to put the plug back in! The only thing that was good about it is the dogs got really excited seeing me working so hard and cursing at their toy.

I have used this several times and all it does is get water everywhere out those small holes on the sides. It does virtually nothing for the dogs a block of regualr ice can't and I'd rather not store it in my freezer either.

Dog Pleasers,

This is the Best dog toy that my dogs ever had.
Hartz makes the best durable chew toy. My yorkies love to shake it and chew it hard. The water plug is hard to pullout but pliers take care of that. P.S. Bonnie & Sadie say Hi!! Tom R.

Don't the negative reviews sway you - I cannot say enough about these bones - they are a life saver to anyone who has a busy body or chewer. I have two - including a yorkie puppy that I should have named Chewbacca instead of Fred since he chews EVERYTHING - furniture, baseboards, you name it. Well, this bone is the only thing that he has not been able to chew into small pieces. It keeps him busy and doesn't get all slobbery. I have not tried to open the cap and put water in them - what I love is that they are indestructible, so I could care less if you can put water in them.
I have both the large and small versions - the small is the perfect size for my Yorkie. The bones also are great at removing tartar. I don't have to mainline breath buster cookies to my two youngest dogs since they constantly give their teeth a workout with these bones. These bones are really hard to find - I was so upset that I had not gotten replacements until I saw them on Ammy. And as usual, for less than I paid retail...

I was acutally able to open it w/ needle nose pliers BUT my dog actually chewed off the white paint, after about an hour. It came off in big chunks. I returned it immediately!

Not very good as a water toy,
This review is from: Hartz H-Chew-O Small Dog Toy, Colors Vary (Misc.)
This product really does not open. I tried today for half an hour with pliers and other tools to get the plug out of the end. When someone gave me a bunch I thought I'd hit the jackpot but now I realize that she gave them to me because they're worthless for their intended purpose!!
My dogs love to chew on rubber and plastic toys like this but they stay away from them, too. There are far better toys on the market for your money.

useless,

I have the same problem as the other reviewer. It is impossible to open this thing, even with pliers, so it can't be used as intended.
