1.0 out of 5 stars This is a re-release of an old game!
This is not a new Harvest Moon game, it is a direct port of Harvest Moon: Back to Nature, which was released on the original Playstation years ago. The game had a few problems then, including really horrible and blurry graphics and a really messed up control scheme, and hasn't been improved at all! Do not buy this expecting a new installment in the series. I can't...

Yes this is a new version of Harvest Moon: back to nature with a few new twists.
Firstly, you will notice you may choose to be male Or female
(and yes they both have branching storylines and also different Marriage results!)
farming is Exact, possibly a little to exact as BTN (back to nature) but this is by far the best version for farming sim fans of the series. also back is the mining area which I had missed in other HM (harvest moon)
games (the ores for powering up tools are in here as well as other
Secrets!)

the sound is now dolby and the resolution has been notched up a little more then the ps1 version (its Progressive scan. go ahead and try running it on your TV with the new PSP go ahead... didn't work did it? you Have to have a Progressive scan high def. tv in order to use the Component cables the AV cables are for video etc. guess I proved my point on the graphics)
the animals can be fun or annoying, depends on what kind of farmer you are. Me personally, I prefer crop growing throughout summer *litle chicken raising too* then hothouse growing in winter! house and hothouse upgrades are here as well. this was a brilliant move to bring this gem to the psp!

graphics arent exactly God of War,(they are good though) but Perfect the way they are 5 star

sound is the same in dolby. good 4 star

Fun: to me 5 star! but not for everyone unless you have played the others.

Overall: this is by far my favorite Harvest Moon Game but stay tuned for my Innocent Life comparison Next Month.
5 Stars for Ownership of the farming/life sim game niche market.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great franchise gets an new and improved installment, August 28, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl (Video Game)
Ok, we can all agree that not everyone is a fan of the Harvest Moon series. So with that in mind, if your not a fan of Harvest Moon, then by all means, stay away from this game. But, if you are a fan or have had some mild fun with one of the games avalible in the franchise, then this a definate pick-up.
As a fan of the series myself, I have to recommend this to anyone who owns a Playstation Personal. Though the PSP may not be the best portable system out there, Harvest Moon Boy & Girl will surly make you put down your Nintendo DS for a while.
This is really a game that breaths to be played on the small sony platform, and not just because it's physically on the PSP, but because it was originally released on the Playstation, (named "Harvest Moon: Back To Nature") back in the 64MB (graphics card) days. This might be a problem for veterans of the series but if you haven't played the original, it shouldn't hold any problems.
But this is not just any port to a more updated system, Back To Nature never featured the option to play as a female, so now the series is not just limited to the male crowd.

Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl may not be a truly new experience for the hardcore gamers of the first edition of Sony's Playstation, but it is one of the best installments of the series and should be played as such.

(If you don't own a PSP of your own, then it is highly recommended you try and grab a copy of the previous issue 'Back To Nature', but as of August 28th, 2007 new copies of the game are running up to $70 and $80, so even that may be a distant fantasy. So as a alternative, there is a Gamboy Advanced version labeled 'Friends of Mineral Town' that is easily prised and lots of fun to play.)

4.0 out of 5 stars A classic, December 29, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl (Video Game)
Harvest Moon Boy & Girl for the PSP is just like the classic versions released previously on the GB only with updated graphics, and little changes.

The opening in a drawn out story, explaining how 'you' washed ashore. You are taken in, and given a home to live in vowing that you'll restore the farm.

The game is pretty fun, but can be a bit frustrating when you're trying to earn money to buy an upgraded version of your rune sack. There are also small lags in the game. The worst of the lag is right as you near the Doctors house, even if you run your character slows to a walking pace, and then speeds up. It's only in that one spot. Also, when the church bells ring the game seems to freeze for a moment. I'm not sure if they meant for that to happen and give some affect that people stop what they're doing to listen to the bells, or if it was just a small glitch.

With the lag issues aside the game is still enjoyable, and a good way to pass the time.

-Edit Jan. 13th- After finally getting to the Winter season of the game, I've discovered a few graphics glitches. There are several black dots in the snow on occasions. Also, once I entered the cave that you get to by crossing the frozen ice the environment turned to spring suddenly. I had to re-enter twice.

But, with all being said it's still a good game, worth playing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, Reminiscent of HM64, December 31, 2011
By
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl (Video Game)
I bought this game because I had played Harvest Moon 64 years ago and had fallen in love with it. I will say that the Harvest Moon games are not for everyone, but if you have played any of the others and liked them, then this will definitely be up your alley. If you have never played a Harvest Moon game it all you need to know that it is a farming/life simulation game. You will spend a lot of your time planting, watering, and harvesting produce as well as tending to farm animals but you will also need to balance that out by talking to the locals and participating in various fastivals.

If you have played Harvest Moon 64 you will instantly recognize all the characters, however, they are slightly different in terms of lives/spouses. You are in a different village than in HM64 but that makes it all the more interesting. It is really nice that you can play either a boy or girl in this game, although the only downside is that if you play the girl part in this game once you get married the game is over. Other than that my only other complaint is the angle of the village, it seems you are always walking in a strange direction, but that is easily looked over as that takes up only part of your time. I love being able to talk to different villagers and getting different reactions/responses as your friendship progresses. It's also nice to complete different tasks, participate in various festivals, and watch your farm and animals grow.

If you like simulation games and you wouldn't mind a little but of farming then this is a game for you. I can honestly say that I love all the Harvest Moon games because of all the various people/festivals/accomplishments you can participate in. I got some of my nieces playing this game as well and they seem to love it just like I did when I started playing it!

5.0 out of 5 stars My FAVORITE HM Game, September 24, 2011

This is by far the best HM game you will play. The town events and the interactions between the characters are always fun and it never got old for me, even past year three. The Cute feature adds a bit of diversity and it is just as fun as the normal version, however once you're married the game ends.
Definitely worth the buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reap the Fruits of Your Labor, March 5, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl (Video Game)
This remake of Back to Nature (originally released for the PS1 in 1998) brings one of the best Harvest Moons of the 20th Century to your fingertips. It combines Back to Nature with Back to Nature for Girls (which was originally only released in Japan.) The graphics are identical to the original and haven't been touched up, only stretched a little to fit the PSP screen. This stretch makes controls awkward at first if you're used to the original but won't be noticeable to first-timers.

Now for gameplay. This game follows the standard formula for almost all Harvest Moon games. You inherit an old, ramshackle farm from your recently departed grandfather, and it's overrun with weeds and rocks and broken tree stumps, along with being totally deserted and possessing only the most basic of buildings and tools. Your goal is to clear the fields, plant and harvest cash crops, raise animals, expand your buildings, upgrade your tools, and explore the wilderness and town for things to buy or forage and sell. Between these necessary chores, you can use your spare time to train your horse and dog, participate in local festivals, cook, mine, fish, and even woo a potential wife (or husband, if you play the Girl version.) Sounds simple, and maybe even boring, but after the hour or so it usually takes for you to get into a day-to-day rhythm, this game is almost impossible to put down. You'll find yourself wanting to play "just one more day" more times than you can count, and the outdated graphics actually help to give this game a sense of cuteness, just adding to the charm of this great game. The mechanics of this game are easy to control and become second-nature after a few hours. The musical score, while very repetitive and lacking much complexity, is pretty and doesn't really become annoying for a long time.

All in all, this is one of my favorite Harvest Moons of all time, and I've played from 1997 to this day. It is a rare gem that transcends the need for flashy graphics and complex, orchestrated scores, and it is definitely worth picking up.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first HM game, and it was AWESOME!, July 24, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl (Video Game)
This was my first ever Harvest Moon game. I used to play HM64 with my friend when i was like, 10, but I got this for my 15th birthday and I've been hooked to HM ever since. Awesome graphics compared to what I'm used to, a lot of fun, and for the girl version there are some ADORABLE guys. The only real issue I had with this game is that for girls, it ends after marriage, but for guys, it keeps going. The thing that compensates for this, however, is that it's harder to get a guy in the girl version, and it's a lot more "romantic" than the guy version, which is VERY cute.

Overall, this is a cool game and I would definately recommend it!

This review is from: Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl (Video Game)
i have to say that i really enjoyed this game even though the original came out on the playstation. i had lots of fun with this game and i feel that u will too. i feel that the price is to steep on here that unlike on the playstation store where u can download it to your psp for only 14.00 instead of even paying 32.00 for a used one or 84.00 for a brand new one. i swear any kind of people will do anything to rip someone off. i hope this helps a few

5.0 out of 5 stars A Japanese only game, and a port of a PlayStation game, October 7, 2009

A Human (New York City, NY USA) - See all my reviews
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl (Video Game)
This game is a PSP port of the previously Japanese only "Back to Nature For Girl", which was eventually enhanced and ported onto the Game Boy Advance for as "More Friends of Mineral Town".
Back To Nature, which was given the same treatment and made into "Friends of Mineral Town".

The two games are similar, they're more or less the same game but your character is a different gender. They're still different though.

I highly recommend this game. It's a port of two cult classics.
